Requiem's Knock I/II spells now additionally grant some Lockpicking expertise.

I got tired of the Knock family of spells being such as pass/fail affect, so I have expanded it.  Now, Bigby's Helping Hand will assist you in your lockpicking endevours.

In short, if the Knock spell would have opened the lock, it still does; no changes here.  However, if the lock is too strong for the spell to do all the work, the spell isn't done yet.  It will help you, by providing some lockpicking expertise.  The expertise granted is only just enough to allow you to attempt a manual picking of a lock-level one step higher than the spell could do by itself.  You can see the amount of expertise granted and it's remaining effect time in your active effects menu.  The expertise expires after 5 seconds, by default, as Requiem takes a few seconds to process the unlock even when Knock succeeds unaided.

For example, Lesser Knock (I) will entirely open a Novice lock by itself.  Without any other source of lockping expertise, an Apprentice lock would be unbeatable.  However, wIth Bigsby's help, you can now attempt to open that Apprentice lock, but only just barely.  You will still need lockpicks in this case, and the difficulty will be as high as possible without you being blocked from even trying.

This holds for empowered casting of Knock.
  • Single-cast of Lesser Knock will open Novice locks, and will now allow you to try manually cracking Apprentice locks
  • Dual-Casting Lesser Knock will immediately open Apprentice locks, and will now allow you to try manually cracking Adept locks
  • Single-casting of Knock (II) will immediately open Apprentice locks, and will now allow you to try manually cracking Adept locks
  • Dual-casting Knock (II) will immediately open Adept locks, and will now allow you to try manually cracking Expert locks

Advanced and Master level locks are intentionally beyond the reach, even with Bigsby's help, unless you find other sources of lockpicking expertise.  This is done for balance, as Greater Knock was intenionally removed and I didn't want to disturb that balance.  Bigsby's help make it easier for mages, without removing the need to invest in more plebian methods for those really tricky locks.

Installation


Install this after requiem, but before RTFI.
YOU MUST RUN THE REQTIFICATOR AFTER ADDING THIS MOD!
Requirem, unmodified, handles lockpicking by attaching scripts to the locks themselves.  This mod updates 2 of those scripts, so this mod can only work after the locks are updated by re-running the reqtificator.

Compatability


This mod edits core Requiem scripts.  This isn't as dangerous as it sounds, as those scripts soley manage the lockpicking logic, and thus are pretty stable (unlikely to be edited).  However, there is the remote chance that future releases of Requiem (or a further Requiem-based mod) may edit these scripts, so check for conflicts on:
  • REQ_LockedObjectsControl
  • REQ_LockpickControl
Finally, to apply the new effects via these scripts, I had to edit one quest, which is again just a data container that is very unlikely to be edited elsewhere.  That quest is: "REQ_CoreScripts_LockedObjectsControl".

If you have issues with lockpicking, and this mod is in your loadorder, the error (if it exists) likely is caused by this mod.  If you have problems, please leave a message here, rather than bothering the requiem mod authors.
