About this mod

For those playing with Curse of the Undying or Truly Undead Reborn, this mod will add more garlic to most vanilla merchants, alchemists, and specific stall vendors and innkeepers to make it a little easier to prepare for delving into undead-infested crypts or dungeons.

Mods such as Curse of the Undying or Truly Undead Reborn are awesome overhauls to Skyrim's undead inhabitants. One of my favorite aspects of both is how garlic is implemented as a means of permanently killing the undead by placing a clove in the inventories of those you recently killed before they can rise again.

And yet, while playing, I noticed that garlic is difficult to come by in Skyrim. Merchants hardly ever sell it, which seemed a little strange to me. I mean, with undead ravaging the lands and superstitions at an all-time high, wouldn't merchants leap at the chance to sell what could be a life-saving ingredient and rake in the profits?

So, I went about creating a mod that would give merchants, alchemists, hunters, and innkeepers garlic to sell. I tried not to go overboard in the amount they all sell, but wanted to make garlic easier to come by.

General Good Merchants and Food Stall Vendors have a chance of carrying between three to seven cloves of garlic at a time, with a slight increase as you become higher level and undead begin to appear in more numbers.

Alchemists and apothecaries carry the most, usually selling between five to sometimes thirteen cloves.

Innkeepers carry the least. Their business is food and drink, after all, but they're not stupid. They know adventurers frequent the taverns and inns, so most of them will carry anywhere between two to three cloves to sell (this increases slightly as you level, but not by much).

Lastly, if you're lucky enough to find a Khajiit Caravan on the road, you'll discover they usually have an abundance of garlic on them. They need the protection since they're not allowed within most cities and are more than willing to sell you up to thirteen cloves sometimes. Hunters also will have a decent amount of garlic on them, as well as the Dawnguard merchants! Peddlers you find on the road may also sell some.

As a note, I would recommend installing a mod that raises the price of garlic. At present, garlic is only worth one gold in-game and that makes little sense if it's such a wanted ingredient. I may upload an optional "garlic costs more" version of my mod, but I, unfortunately, cannot predict what everyone's economy setup is.

Installation:

Install via M02. If you have any mods that alter the same leveled lists as I've changed, a patch will most likely be needed to be sure my changes are also forwarded.

I have also provided a SPID distribution file that will add garlic as random loot to bandits, priests, priestesses, alchemists, and more! Covers vanilla, Rogues N' Raiders, Heritage Enemies 2, and High Level Enemies Redux. Requires Spell Perk Item Distributor and all its dependencies. You do not need to have the other mods installed to distribute to vanilla bandits, etc. But to get the most out of the .ini, I'd recommend them.

Future Plans:

  • Possible "More Expensive Garlic" version if there's interest
  • SPID Distribution of garlic as random loot from bandits, Forsworn, wandering alchemists, travelers, Vigilants of Stendarr, Imperial and Stormcloak patrols, etc. Done!

Credits:

  • Styyxus for helping me figure out the hunters and how to randomize the amount of garlic sold. I wouldn't have been able to do it without you!
