Bowyer aims to create a complete new system for bow-crafting, completely independent from vanilla and 100% compatible with everything.
Features:
1. New "tier system" for bow crafting, using strings and shafts, bound to your Archery lvl and not smithing lvl.
2. A complex and immersive process for crafting your bows
3. All recipes will only show up if you have the correspondent ingredients, so no bloat.
4. An upgradable system for elven, orcish, glass and ebony bows, using new strings, in order to make then relevant if you wish.
5. No edits in any vanilla files: this system wont replace anything, can be safely ignored and wont conflict with any changes to perks, weapons and recipes from other mods.
Disclaimers:
1. I have no idea how accurate my recipes are - I'm not a bowyer IRL, I just used this website as an inspiration (http://www.madehow.com/Volume-5/Bow-and-Arrow.html).
2. This mod uses WACCF weapon balancing to create its bow tiers (elven is weaker than orcish).This means that if you do not use it, the recipes for the upgraded versions of elven and orcish will not make sense, damage-wise.
3. For better immersion, I recomend using the real bows mod
4. PLEASE read everything, I wanted it to be simple, but ended up with many ingredients and recipes, so the process is a bit complex.
Overview
With bowyer installed, you will be able to craft some vanilla bows in the tanning rack, provided you have the materials and the marksman level needed.
To craft a bow, you will need leather strips, a bow shaft and a string. The bow shaft is assembled with 3 layers (back layer, middle layer and face layer) and the strings are assembled with a basic ingredient and honeycombs (to simulate wax).
Starting from level 10 marksman, you can create a book at the tanning rack with all the ingredients and recipes.
All bows were divided into Tiers, in order fo facilitate de process:
Tier 0 ( no level requirement): longbow, hunting bow and imperial bow (uses the hunting bow shaft)
Tier 1 ( marksman lvl 30 requeired): elven bow
Tier 2 (lvl 50 required): orcish bow
Tier 3 (lminimum lvl 70 required): glass bow, ebony bow (lvl 80).
Tier 4 (minimum lvl 90): daedric bow, dragonbone bow (lvl 100)
Each tier has a different offset of materials needed, and a minimum string that can be used to make the bow:
Tier 0: linen string (made from linen wraps and honeycomb)
Tier 1: sinew string (made from sinew and honeycomb, minimum lvl 30)
Tier 2: gut string ( guts and honeycomb, minimum lvl 50)
Tier 3: silk string (silk and honeycomb, minimum lvl 70)
Tier 4: fiberglass string (fiberglass and honeycomb, minimum lvl 90)
The following bows are not included in bowyer:
1. Dwarven bow
2. Falmer bow
3. Ancient nord bow
4. Nord hero bow
5. Stalhrim bow
6. Nordic bow
7. Forsworn bow.
You will have to create basically all ingredients needed to make the bows: nothing drops or is sold, but made from itens found already in game.
The Shaft making
The most important aspect of bowyer is the new shaft making process. Most of the new ingredients have been made in order to allow an immersive crafting experience.
The shaft and the layers are all made at the tanning rack
The template is as follows:
1. Back layer: made from heartwood. The base req (tier 0) is 5.
Each tier adds + 5, so it goes from 5 (Tier 0) to 25 (tier 4)
2. Middle Layer: made from glue and the special ingredient for each bow.
From tier 0 to 3, the glue needed is always 5. At tier 4, you need 10.
The other ingredient is always capped at 10, no matter the tier.
3. Face layer: glue and bone meal
At tier 0, you need 2 glue and 5 bone meal, but starting from tier 1, you need 5 + 10, each tier increasing the bone meal by 5. At tier 4, the glue is too increased by 5.

1. Longbow: tier0
Linen string

Layer 2: 5 glue + 10 woodscraps
Layer 3: 2 glue + 5 firewood
2. Elven bow: tier 1 – lvl 30

Layer 3: 5 glue + 10 bone meal
3. Daedric bow: tier 4 – 90 lvl

Layer 2: 10 glue + 10 infused ebony
Layer 3: 10 glue + 25 bone meal
Note: some bows have some other requisites: Hunting bow needs 1 steel ingot, imperial needs one corundum and orcish needs the bloodkin status
New ingredients
There are many new ingredients to be made from vanilla itens in order to craft your bows:
Tanning Rack recipes:
1. Linen Wrap: 5 tundra cotton
2. Sap: 3 firewood
3. Sinew: 1 venison
4. Guts: 1 venison
5. Silk: 10 spider eggs
6. Heartwood: 5 firewood
7. Wood scraps: 1 firewood
Mill Recipes
1. Powdered Dragonbone: 1 dragon bone
2. Bone meal: 1 horker tusk OR 1 mammoth tusk OR 1 goat horns
3. Powdered malachite: 1 malachite ore.
4. Powdered Elven mixture: 3 moonstone ore + 2 quicksilver ore
5. Powdered Orsimer Mixture: 3 orichalcum ore + 2 bone meal + be bloodkin
6. Powdered ebony: 1 ebony ore
Cooking pot recipes
1. Animal fat: 1 venison
2. Glue: 1 sap + 1 fat
3. Infused Ebony: 5 powdered ebony + 1 daedra heart + 5 glue
4. Glassfiber: 5 silk + 2 powdered malachite + 5 glue
Upgradable bows
Bows from tier 1 and upwards can be upgraded with the new strings, as to keep relevant. Note that they can't be upgraded to the last tier and will never have the same damage as the best bow (dragonbone). All new bows can be tempered:
1. Elven bow: can be upgraded with the gut string (dmg of 12) and silk string (dmg of 15).
2. Orcish bow: can be upgraded with the silk string (dmg of 15).
3. Glass and ebony: can be upgraded with the fiberglass string (dmg of 19).
Arrow Crafting
Similar to bow crafting, you can make arrows at the tanning rack without worrying about your smithing level.
To craft arrows, you will need:
1. Arrow shafts, made from firewood at the tanning rack.
2. Feathers, made from chicken or pheasant breast at the tanning rack
3. Arrowheads, made from the respective ingot at the blacksmith forge (they wont follow your smithing level, but the marksman one).
Compatibility and patches
As this mod does not edit a single vanilla record, this should be compatible with everything without the need for patches.
WACCF weapon balance is a sort of a soft requirement, but if you do not want to follow it, its just a matter of changing values in xedit.
Hunterborn patch provided: it makes it so you use hunterborn's animal fat instead of bowyer's in the recipes.
Patches will be needed to integrate new bows to this system. Anyone is free to make modifications and patches, as long as you don't paywall anything.
Future Plans:
1. Create two new bows as sort of "endgame weps", IF I can find free to use textures and meshes.
2. Include Forsworn, Falmer and Nord Hero Bows.
3. Upload a version following Adamant's smithing levels for the bow Tiers
