About this mod

This is a collection of patches for the mod Spell Research. There are multiple files available for download which include import scripts for various mods that add spells including Odin and Triumvirate. There are also Altered Tomes patches which update the spell books to show the new archetypes instead of teach the spell.

This mod is no longer supported. The patches may or may not continue to work depending on updates to their respective mods.

I am in the process of making a spell learning mod (inspired by spell research) and therefore will no longer be using Spell Research or making patches for it.

These patches will work with Spell Research with or without Aopapse's Arcana, however, I highly recommend these patches if you are using Arcana as I specially selected archetypes to work well with the spell forge.

This is a collection of patches for the mod: Spell Research. There are multiple spell research patch collections out there. A patch Grimoire, a Patch Compendium, and more. These are great and please feel free to use them. I will primarily be uploading patches for mods that I use. I don't plan on doing too many requested patches, but if no other collection has a particular patch, I may be willing to make one if there is enough interest.

There are also a load of other Altered Tomes mods out there. Again, feel free to use them instead of these. I edited the zEdit patcher to use sentence structure and vocabulary that I preferred.

The tricky thing about these patches is there is a lot of subjectivity. I chose spell archetypes that I thought fit well with the spells, you might think differently just as the authors of the other patches may have thought differently.

Please note that I made these patches with the intention of using Aopapse's Arcana. This is a patch that combines Spell Research with Spell Forge. These patches can be used without this mod, but I selected spell elements and techniques that allowed for ease of spell creation with the categories listed in the spell forge.

BTW, all of the ESPs are flagged as ESLs so no need to worry about your plugin limit!

Import Patches:

Spell Research Import Player Alias    -    This MUST be downloaded!! This script helps spell research recognize and import other spell mods.

Odin - Skyrim Magic Overhaul    -    This patch allows you to import ALL the spells from Odin. There is another Odin patch on the Nexus but it misses 11 spells.*

Triumvirate - Mage Archetypes    -    This allows you to import all the spells from Triumvirate.

Bound Tools Spells    -    This allows you to import the bound tools spells from this mod (I recommend this mod if you want bound tools to save weight)

Zim's Improved Dremora   -   Allows you to import the spells added by this mod.

No Ignite/Freeze Dragonborn   -   Removes Ignite and Freeze from spell research so they can't be learned (normally requires Ahzidal's ring to equip). I currently believe this is only an issue with Aopapse's Arcana. I don't believe this is needed with just Spell Research. I am looking for a better fix then simply removing them from the import script as that means you can't study them for experience. Not the end of the world, but not ideal. Spell research has a "SR_ListUndiscoverableSpells" form. I think this should mean you can't actually learn them with spell research, but I am not 100% sure. My guess is the spell forge doesn't have a check for this built in so it lets you learn them anyways. No real harm in downloading this as most people won't be running around with Ahzidal's ring anyways.

Altered Tomes Patches (Spell tomes no longer teach the spell but instead show you the archetypes the spell uses):

Odin   -   This includes altered tomes for Odin.

Skyrim, Dawnguard, Dragonborn   -   This includes altered tomes for vanilla Skyrim, Dawnguard, and Dragonborn, respectively.

Triumvirate  -   ...

Bound Tools Spells   -   ...

Zim's Improved Dremora   -   ...

*This other Odin patch works fine, but it misses 11 spells from Odin. This is due to some intricacies with the zEdit Patchers used to make these patches. These 11 spells have vanilla Form IDs and are not brand new spells, just edited ones. As such, the zEdit patchers default to their vanilla versions.  I was able to make some manual edits to the import scripts and Spell Tome text to fully integrate them into spell research. The other patch works fine, you just won't be able to learn those few spells with spell research.

I have multiple other patches I am in the process of making. I will upload them here as they are made.

I have done pretty extensive testing so everything should work. I haven't tested every individual spell so please let me know if you run across any problems.

Install and Load Order:

1. Install the Import Player Alias script. This must be downloaded in order for the other import patches to work.

2. Install the import patches for the mods you want. Make sure you have both spell research and the mod you're patching downloaded and installed. Let these patches overwrite spell research if you are ever prompted.

3. Install the Altered Tomes patches for the mods you want.

4. Make sure SR_AlteredTomes_Skyrim.esp and SR_AlteredTomes_Dawnguard.esp are loaded before SR_AlteredTomes_Odin.esp. The "consistency patch" should be loaded after all of these.

5. In game, go to the spell research MCM and under the options tab, select Import Spells (Or Re-Import if you've already done this before). Selected yes when prompted and allow the spells to be imported. You should see debug notifications in the top left updating you on progress. It may take a few minutes to go through all of the mods.

6. You are finished when it says it is done importing mods. If you installed everything correctly, you should not run into the infinite import bug. In my experience, this only happens when you don't have the import player alias script installed properly, or possibly when you have import patchs for mods you don't have installed.
