Version 1.3.0 - Adoption, Companions, and More!

    ATTENTION:
This update unfortunately requires a fresh install to work properly.  Several storage containers were moved or modified, along with several scripts that manage the Chest.  In order for these changes to take effect the objects must be cleared from your save game.  To achieve this, please follow the steps in the stickied post below.  I recognize that this is far from ideal, but there were so many changes behind the scenes to this version that it became unavoidable.

Version 1.3.0 brings a large new add-on that provides space for adoptions and companions, along with a handful of other patches and several more changes to The Hoarder's Chest.

Adoption: Using Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions, the Chest can become home to up to six children.  They will explore and play within the Chest, as well as outside along the lakeside.
Companions: The add-on provides ten beds for your companions to use, along with a dining area, training facilities, and a lavish shower.

Other Changes:  There are a host of new additions, bug fixes, and general changes to the Chest which can be reviewed in the changelog.  Here are some of the more important notes:

    - Added location information to the Chest.  This is necessary for adoption and will also make the Chest compatible with My Home is Your HomeNether's Follower Framework, and other mods that assign home locations to NPCs.  This also adds a map icon for the Hoarder's Cave.
      - Added custom models for many of the storage containers, including ingredients, soul gems, gems, heart stones, potions, poisons, and more.  (Basically anything on the alchemy and enchanting table.)
        - Added Beverage storage to the kitchen.
        - Modified the crafting area and layout to make more sense aesthetically. (stone floors instead of tile)  Also adjusted the location of the Grindstone and Armorer's Workbench to fit within the new crafting area.
        - Added a lightswitch to the Chest, and bellows to turn the fireplace on or off.
        - Added several new Idle markers to the Chest to give your companions more to do
    .

        1.3.1
        - Replaced the entry door to the Adoption and Companions' Quarters with a trapdoor.

        1.3.2
        - Fixed issues with the ESL files.  This should not impact your existing saves.
        - The door to the Companions' Quarters is now togglable with a button by the exit door.
        - Fixed the rotation of Kynareth's Shrine.  (Thanks RNBWBLKsheep for pointing that out.)
        - Fixed an issue with the Golden Claw that was causing it to not register changed models or texture files. (Thanks to Ralu for pointing that out.)

    Patches and Add-ons
        - Adoption and Companions' Quarters - Adds a new level to the Chest for companions, and adoption compatibility using Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions.
        - Campfire Patch - Adds keywords needed for beverage sorting to appropriate Campfire items
        - Frostfall Patch - Adds keywords needed for beverage sorting to appropriate Frostfall items
        - CACO Patch - Adds keywords needed for beverage sorting to appropriate Complete Alchemy and Cooking Overhaul items.
        - Embers XD - Adjusts the height of fireplace fires to match the Embers XD models.

        1.3.1
        - The Hoarder's Homestead - Adds constructible items along the shoreline of Lake Ilinalta such as a dock, fish hatchery, and stable, among others.

Note: If the lights are patchy when you first enter the Chest with the Adoption and Companions add-on installed, go downstairs and back up to correct the issue.  This is caused by having too many lights going at once.  Lighting is handled automatically most of the time, but it requires an initial reset to get set up properly the first time.

    As always,
    HAPPY HOARDING!!!

How to perform a clean install of the Chest without starting a new game:

    • Use the Empty Chest button (on the side of the settings desk) to move all items from the various storage containers in the chest to a safe by the exit.  Empty this Safe or all items in it will be lost.
    • Remove all items from weapon racks and display cases.  Note: Artifacts will still show up after pressing the button, but they have been moved to the safe.  DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE ARTIFACTS AFTER PRESSING THE EMPTY CHEST BUTTON, that will only put them back on display and they will be lost when you uninstall the mod.
    • Exit the Chest, cave, and general vicinity of Illinalta's Deep.
    • Save and exit the game.
    • Uninstall The Hoarder's Chest - Rebuilt.
    • Load Skyrim, acknowledge the missing mods, and then save and exit.
    • Install the updated Hoarder's Chest.
    • Load back into Skyrim and make your way back to the chest for sorting.  You do not have to do the quest to enter the Chest, you only need the key on the Hoarder's body.  Make sure to use Sort-All instead of the individual sort buttons, as doing it one category at a time will take significantly longer than the Sort-All function.

Depending on how many items you have it may take a very long time to sort out your inventory after doing this.  Please be patient and do not hit the Sort-All button multiple times.  There may also be issues when you open the "Empty Chest" safe due to the number of items in the container causing major lag.  Skyrim isn't designed to handle huge inventories all at once, so it WILL BE SLOW AND LAGGY until you've resorted your items.  This is a limitation in Skyrim's engine and there's nothing I can do to mitigate it.

I've been using this mod for a couple years now, and I love it, but I've been having issues with the ingredient sorting script. At first, it would just take 15+ minutes to sort things out (the more stuff I have in the storage, the longer it takes), but after starting a new gam recently, it stopped working completely. Everything else works fine - never had issues with it. Any ideas?

Edit: n/m, it was user error. I merge all my SKSE mods into one archive for ease of use, and I forgot to include the scripts from Papyrus Extender when i updated. Derp.

I was looking for a good collector's home since the GTS modpack isn't compatible with LotD... Rayaks end seemed good but there just wasn't enough mannequins for me, Solstice Castle seemed very nice but I got nervous about potential landscape meshing issues... But this? This is exactly what I needed! I don't even need a carriage or fast travel to access it!

The only problem I have is a small bug where I can't place the savior's hide without the game CTD. I'm sadly not smart enough to figure out why it's doing that, though. Here's the log https://pastebin.com/SzyUf7Zt

Small edit : I actually checked for a saviors hide mod in GTS and it has "Savior's Hide Replacer" which may cause the crash. I'll check if it's that later on, but it wouldn't surprise me. Can still put it on a mannequin though!

The error you're seeing happens when the game tries to load something that doesn't exist in memory.  My best guess would be that the mod changes the mesh's ObjectID, so when the mod tries to load it in to display it, it crashes.  That's odd though, because I've used other replacers like one for Azura's Star, which should work the same way, and they work just fine.  It may be something you could fix by modifying the reference ID of that display in SKSEdit, but if you can display it on a mannequin then it may not be worth the headache.

I'm glad the chest is working for you otherwise,
      Happy Hoarding!

I love such portable abode mods, but I was missing precisely this kind of hoard-&-showoff-every-treasure-&-relic option as a portable abode. So I am glad I found this Hoarder's Chest mod! Thank you for wonderful work and useful mod!

Finally after so many years, "coc qasmoke" hidden cell gets its hoarder alternative! :-)

I'm very happy to hear that you like the Chest.  I have a similar desire to show off everything, which is what led to the creation of this mod in the first place.

      Happy Hoarding!

Just found this mod, while looking for a proper player home, I've been wanting to find something like Rayek's End, but be able not just collect items but companions as well.

It seems like this mod fits the bill.

Many people have already suggested features they'd like to see in this mod and I couldn't agree more with them. Hopefully one day you will feel up to making this mod even better then it is now.

Thanks for mod and the hard work!

I'm glad to hear that the Chest fits your needs.  I'm not actively developing it at the moment, but there are a handful of "final" features I've outlined if I ever do get around to another update.

Note: HOW TO HOARD FOLLOWERS (guide for newbies):
You can drop off followers/companions into such a portable abode (below approach works for non-portable adode mods too, but such homes may allow the NPCs to travel out of the home if their AI gets them to travel/return; that's not a problem if the NPC/follower is inside a portable home, because it is a separate worldspace cell) and let them relax there. Just make sure to:
      1. Set the location as their new home (use either MHIYH or MHiYH 2Plus mod).
      2. Tell your followers to relax (Followers Can Relax mod is needed; newer versions of follower frameworks like EFF and NFF have already incorporated this useful mod).
      3. Drop a few bedrolls for the followers, in case the player home doesn't provide sufficient beds. Beds may have ownership problems (in case the modder forgot to remove the player ownership on them), but bedrolls don't have such problems, so followers can easily use them.
      4. To be on safer side, take away any precious items from the followers, so you don't lose those items due to some random NPC/follower glitches.
      5. Track the follower: add & track them via a tracking mod (such as CS Tag&Track, Where Are You, Flute Finder, Aolus QOL). This is necessary if you have many followers spread across multiple locations, so it is easier to track them all through such mechanisms. Some mods like Swiftly Order Squad and CS Tag&Track allow for dynamically forming an active party/squad out of existing followers.
      6. Dismiss the follower. Remove them from any follower framework you use (EFF/NFF/SFF/AFT/UFO).
      7. Teleport or travel out of the home. Go explore and adventure in Skyrim and come back later. Your ex-followers will be waiting for you - well fed, and relaxed - ready to join you again on new adventures.

Viola! Now you have successfully hoarded followers too, in a portable home!

Hello! Thank you for the mod, it's excellent. One question about the "sell chest", how do we sell the items within? is there perhaps a button I didn't notice?

I'm glad that you're enjoying the Hoarder's Chest!  Unfortauntely, that chest is only for storing items that you intend to sell rather than hoard.  You can't sell from it directly.  I had considered adding a merchant or something similar, but decided that it went against the lore I was trying to establish.

I use below mods for such junk/items selloff/recycle/storage/crafting purposes:
      Bag of TRASH SE
Portable Mimic SE - Item Recycler
Add whatever crafting stations and basic objects wherever you like:
      Solars Portable Crafting (SE)
      Placeable Statics - Move Anything
      Decorator Helper
Store or craft on the go:
Conjurable Chest and Crafting Furniture Spells
UTILITY SPELLS - UTS - SSE
      Aeolus QOL
      Portable Crafting Snowglobes
This way, I don't have to worry about junk items, nor do I need to worry where I kept my precious gear, nor do I need to struggle for crafting, no matter which mod-added player home mod or location I am relaxing or exploring in.

Do you have any mods that impact keywords on items?

I must be missing something because it seems that for almost every container of sorted items there is a corresponding search button allowing you to review and retrieve specific items.  Where is the search button for crafting materials?  I have a quest looking for some specific ores and would like to just grab them from the Chest but can't figure out how.

      Sorry for the delayed response.

That is correct.  I opted not to put specific displays in those.  If I ever have time to update the mod again I'll consider adding some display prompts as an optional addon, but I wanted to leave them clear and easy to put anything into.

    Dear PowderedSugar,

while i write this i am on the finishing line to create a Modpack for my new playthrough and i gladly added this great player home to my list and installed it right away.
If i may ask, would you consider 2 little additions to make this already great mod i would say "perfect" ?
Some stables outside for some Horses (i installed the Witcher Horses and would love to collect some of them and stable em "at Home"

and if you could somehow implement this mod it would rock, as with JK´s Whiterun + Dawn of Skyrim it has absolut no place left back in Whiterun where it stood so far  https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/20161/?tab=description

Thank you for reading this and for your efforts as mod-creator, appreciate it really.

Sorry for taking so long to reply, busy week.

The homestead addition includes a small stable.  There's not really any room for me to expand the stable without it making that narrow stretch of land along the shore too cluttered.

I'm sorry to say that I'm not actively working on this mod right now.  I have some additions that I've started working on and if I ever find myself with some solid free time I hope to release my "Final" version of the mod.  If that ever happens then I will see if I can integrate The Hoarder's Chest with that market stall mod.

I'm happy to hear that you're enjoying the Chest otherwise.

      Happy Hoarding!!!

Hey, just want to say good job on your mod. its a must-have. I have an issue thats probably not related to your mod, but would like to ask your help. 1 of the mannequins keep duplicating items that I previously equipped. I can't equip new armor on that mannequin they just get returned. Using console to remove items from that mannequin does nothing. Any idea on how to get that mannequin back to normal?

Edit: Never mind. I found a fix. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/9562/ this mod for skyrim still works for skyrim se and solves the duplication issue. Everyone who needs a fix should look at this mod.

I'm glad you're enjoying the mod, and I'm glad you were able to find a fix.

If you read through some of the other posts you'll quickly find that the mannequins in this game are a never-ending source of headache.
I really hope Bethesda fixes them for ES VI.
