The helmet itself always looked pretty cool in the item menu, but sadly it doesent when you decide to wear it. Which means that Bethesda had the right idea all along, but kinda dropped the ball.

Quick note: You might have some issues if you have character with a very long nose. If that is the case it migh clip through the helmet. 

Upcoming and possible changes: 

-Altering it for orsimer as well
-Make the noseguard slightly thinner
-Adding an optional version of the leather helmet, by transforming the currently 2d textures of steel buttons into 3d meshes. 
-Re-adding protrustion on the layers on the lower part of the helm, in a more subtle way than in the vanilla game. 
-The female variation has some cool features which I MIGHT reimplement for them

Before you post, read this:

-Does it alter the look on orcs? 

Not as of yet, but it will be added shortly. 

-Will you ever alter it for argonian and khajiit?

It would take a lot of work to improve the overall look of helmets for khajiit and argonians. You may have noticed that helmets in Skyrim were not exactly designed with those races in mind. So the short answer is that its very unlikely. 

-Is it compatible with X texture mod? 

It should be compatible with all textures added to the vanilla leather helmet. I use aMidianborns textures on my setup.
