Shrines
Enhanced Vanilla Textures - Shrines provides higher-quality vanilla diffuses and normal map textures for the shrines.
- Currently offered in 2K diffuse/2K normal maps. Other versions will be available once they're made.
- Shrine Gallery provided (misc file) for easy compares (coc ShrineGallery)
Each shrine was processed through AI models to achieve the results, and each texture was handled independently. No batch processing was done! The result is a sharper image with less detail loss vs other upscales. The diffuse textures were mainly straight forward upscales. Though fairly simple to handle, great care was taken in the models or combination of models utilized to retain as much texture detail as possible.
The normal maps were more complicated. They were broken down into their separate channels and each channel was processed separately before being reassembled.
- The alpha channels are more detailed and are considerably closer to their diffuse counterparts.
- The blue channels were mostly already clean. I cleaned up some minor artifacts here and there before processing. The end result having some contrast added for more detail.
- The green channels were a mix of clean and lightly artifacted. They were cleaned were needed and upscaled to provide greater detail to the normal. This channel frequently had some details sharpened to reduce blurring, providing a crisper normal map.
- The red channels were a disaster. They were the most heavily artifacted of all the channels. So much so, more often than not, they had to be strongly processed to convert the artifacting to dithering. Since most the shrines are metal or a coarse texture, this worked out well to simply leave the dithering in place. Specifically for the shrine base, this channel was completely missing the candle wax on the sides. This was fixed by adding it from the green channel and converting it to match the red channel (which is why there is a large change to this area in the compares).
