Follow the Leader - A Nether's Follower Framework Add-On

Ever since I first caught a glimpse of it, Nether's Follower Framework has been a must-have mod in my load order. Highly functional, compatible and practical, it ended up winning my heart over from AFT and iAFT, both excellent follower mods that I used before.

However, while NFF adds the ability to make all current followers wait or follow at once via its "Command Followers" power, I missed the option to issue such commands via dialogue, a function present in both AFT and iAFT. So my mod basically aims to recreate that kind of feature, adding two extra dialogue options to make every follower in the party follow/wait in such a way that I find to be a bit more immersive.

What does it do:

Follow the Leader adds
two dialogue lines that execute NFF's "follow all/wait all" commands. They're almost mere copycats of some vanilla and NFF dialogues, but with some tweaks. While they don't differentiate between hirelings and followers, they don't show up for animals and dwarven constructs (I didn't find it very immersive; such followers could probably end up convincing everyone to follow them to you, but I think it would take quite a while for them to be understood...).

In short, the dialogue lines will only appear:

  • If there are at least 2 followers currently following you;
  • If the follower you're speaking to isn't an animal or a dwarven automata (that is, doesn't have the ActorTypeAnimal or ActorTypeDwarven keywords);
  • In the case of NFF supported followers (e.g. Serana, Frea, Karliah, Sofia, Misty Skye, Mrissi, etc.), if they have been imported to the framework;

As of version 1.1, followers with voices recognized by NFF should also have FTL voiced answers. Unvoiced followers or followers with unrecognized voices will receive the same treatment as in NFF (a "he/she nods" caption or, in Sofia's case, a silent response).

Compatibility:

Non-humanoid followers without the aforementioned keywords may need to be patched, so as not to add the dialogue to them. Besides that, I can't imagine anything compatible with NFF that would be incompatible with this. The plugin is an ESPFE by default.

Installation:

Install with a mod manager and place it below NFF (anywhere below it).

Future plans:

Add voiced dialogue for Relationship Dialogue Overhaul and for some custom voiced followers.

Why?

I crave immersion while I'm playing games, and I'm aware that NFF's author pretty much summed up his view on why NFF won't always recreate features from other mods (a viewpoint that he has every right to stand up for and I recommend you to read it on NFF's FAQ). That's why FTL is an independent effort to replicate a feature that I find to be immersive, and I'm sharing it for anyone that may find it to be useful or enjoyable.
