That's a lot of wind up for how much these make it look like the PC is under water in terms of speed gain and loss. Not looking at what we're swinging and the wrist going limp at every animation's end, the paddle flailing for a little bit there, is also not such a great look. The more apt title than "Relentless Warrior" would be "Lawn-Mower" or "Ankle-Biter", the PC seems to do this weird squat at the start and then spends too much of their time slashing at knee height, with some Trick Fighting maneuvers thrown in.
Suggestions :
- Work on the flow and transitioning between animations, normalize decreases and increases in speed. - Long wind up? Then it should lead to high speed striking and slashing, carrying the PC in a relatively long distance in a straight line(That's not to say it can't lead to an aerial maneuver), not a feeling of slashing under water. - Address the limp biz wrist. If there are technical limitations, work around them by adjusting the animations. Currently it looks like real life, where that paddle would break a person's wrist if they tried to swing it like that. - Reduce the amount of time the PC has no eyes on the target(Or any target at all for the matter, when their back is fully turned). - Let the PC spend more time standing, Voldo and Eddie Gordo are cool but Siegfried or 'Mare work better for what you're going. It's cool to add 1-2 instances of low cleaves off a low stance but it being the average, is a bit weird. I guess it looks OK if the PC is literally towering over NPCs and Trolls even, but you have to take into consideration that smaller PCs will make this fighting style look highly impractical. I mean more than it already is(Which is OK, but too much and it starts being ridiculous, so do keep small PCs in mind).
Thank you for reading and I hope you found my opening paragraph amusing, it's there more for a laugh- The suggestions part is the important part.
In general combat animations have come quite far, with SkySA enabling them to affect game play in a way. Reckless styles, flowing styles, realistic styles... It's very interesting to see different authors' interpretations. Keep them coming and thank you for replying!
Edit - It would also be cool to see what can be done for hammers, axes, pole arms, dual wield(But please not For Honour's Berserker, it's already cliche) and ranged weapons. I don't know if it's even possible to do bows and such, but I wonder if for example a back dash while letting an arrow fly, would be possible. Things like that, full Legolas mode ;3
The animations are great, but SkySA 2.7 completely breaks them (animations are extremely slow), as it removes weapon speed multiplier. Would it be possible to see version for it?
for anyone using this that is bothered by the wind up time, you can use the PACE mod to adjust the weapon speed of each individual weapon, personally for me i like it because it resembles the elin slayer animations a bit from TERA, since i am playing as an elin
