Hi everyone, I made this mod mainly for myself and a friend, but I think it can be useful to others. I know other mods already do the same thing without editing Actors records, but it's an alternative method that I like because you can customize the INI file.
Please let me know if a NPC shouldn't be in the list or if NPCs are missing :)
Elenwen loses her essential status once the main quest is complete. If I add her to the INI of the protected version so she doesn't randomly die on the road with this mod that lets you kill her, will she still be protected after her essential status is removed?
well, I triggered some dialogue with him and basically you basically end up killing him no matter what the outcome is during or after the quest as he has the safe key, or you just steal it off him but that is the only way to get the key without killing him with him. I don't think the persuasion works with him at all from my memory but I'm not sure. It's more fun to just kill him anyway.
I was more worried that this mod would be inactive, and you wouldn't respond at all. This mod has been the only saving grace against dragon attacks for me and it's really the last thing I wanted to uninstall.
However I've found a funny issue with The Whispering Door - Quest Expansion mod: according to that mod's quest Fianna must be killed, but she's protected by your mod now and therefore when I approached the Whispering Door for the second time to open it - she opened it instead. She was in a "bleedout" state, naked and covered in blood and cuts all over her body. Then she stood up straight and started talking as if nothing had happened at all. It was ridiculous to see! I believe that commenting her line (298) with an initial semicolon [;] in the mod's *.ini file should fix the issue.
LATER: It's also possible to fix the issue mid-game, but only before the Whispering Door is opened: open the console (with the default [`] button) and type setessential 000D16DD 0 Then hit the [Enter] button. Don't forget to comment her line in the mod's *.ini file beforehand.
Hi, indeed, I should remove her for the sake of this mod (she doesn't risk much in the game anyways) and check other popular quest extensions for the same cases ^^
Fantastic mod but it causes an issue where you can't complete a quests that requires you to kill a certain NPC. For example; Killing Narfi from the Dark brotherhood contract, and Donnel from the Forsworn Conspiracy quest.
This mod was in my modlist for so long I forgot that it exist, took me awhile to figure out what made them unkillable xd Setting their essential back to 0 in console fixed it but, Perhaps an optional mod where some NPCs that involved with a quest to not be made essential?
For some reason, not all characters are protected, but they are written in the .ini file. For example, Hilde - for some reason she is still killed. I used the SkyPatcher version.
Oh wow, I didn't know that never actually completed the war, I am glad you mentioned this because I added him myself, I am about to remove him. Thank you for the reply and the mod.
Poor old Rogatus Salvius just got wiped off the face of Mundus by a band of goblins from Immersive Creatures, so I knew I had to find something like this.
I don't mind NPCs not being immortal, but with how many variables can happen in Bethesda games, I think the best option is to just make it so that only the player is able to kill any named characters. It f*#@ing sucks coming across the body of someone that you know has a quest, and you either have to resurrect them, reload, or just accept that you won't be able to do that quest this playthrough.

Also you can use The Whispering Door - Quest Expansion - Fianna Lives mod instead, but don't install and use it mid-game - it doesn't work that way.
