Hi everyone, I made this mod mainly for myself and a friend, but I think it can be useful to others. I know other mods already do the same thing without editing Actors records, but it's an alternative method that I like because you can customize the INI file.
Please let me know if a NPC shouldn't be in the list or if NPCs are missing :)
For some reason, not all characters are protected, but they are written in the .ini file. For example, Hilde - for some reason she is still killed. I used the SkyPatcher version.
!) Check in the reports (log file) if plugin of SkyPatcher works, whether it is loaded correctly, it may be that it does not work for your game.
2) Try to place the settings file SkyPatcher-Protected Citizens.ini on the way, which is recommended by plugin SkyPatcher: The folder of your game SE or AE \ Data \ SKSE \ Plugins \ SkyPatcher \ npc \ SkyPatcher-Protected Citizens.ini
She has the 'PC Level Mult' flag, the mod can't apply protection to such npc. I don't know if it can be bypassed with Skypatcher, you can use the console to force the status, but that goes against Skypatcher's non-interference philosophy. Most companions (Jorrvaskr) have this flag too. I tried removing these flags and setting the level manually with a patch, but it seems like it doesn't work for these NPCs in midgame.
Sorry, but Fomod installer complains about the absence of the Readme file during the installation of the recently updated SPID (legacy) version of the mod and aborts the installation.
Hi Oaristys, I see in the new version you Removed Fianna. Removed Narfi, Donnel and Aringoth from Essential version. Do they cause issues with quests or anything else while being set as essential?
Hi, see comments below (thanks to people reporting it): they're supposed to die (I built the mod with the Protected version in mind so the Essential version was a bit too much ^^), Fianna only with the mod The Whispering Door - Quest Expansion but she doesn't risk much anyway in Dragonsreach. :)
Narfi gets assassinated in the vanilla Dark Brotherhood questline.
Donnel (together with Nana) attacks the player's character and anyone else in the Treasury House during vanilla The Forsworn Conspiracy quest and gets killed eventually.
Aringoth can be killed by the player's character during or after the vanilla Loud and Clear quest. He attacks the player's character anyway if the latter fails a hard-level Speech check in the Persuasion dialogue option to convince Aringoth hand over the key to his safe.
Oaristys, tnx for very useful (in some situations) mod!
For those who use option SPID-Protected Citizens this mod: add to the lines at the end of ~Skyrim.esm , then the mod really works! Example changes: Always
I know some may not like having to CTRL+C, CTRL+V spam ~Skyrim.esm for 460 times, therefore, I've included the NPCs list in this pastebin, appended with ~Skyrim.esm.
Note: - this only includes the 460 Skyrim.esm NPCs obviously, download the mod, replace the 460 NPCs from the SPID with the ones from Pastebin - this is for the Protected version, cuz that's what I use
I have a question: Can both versions of the mod be used? E.g Install the Protected version first to get NPCs protected, then uninstall and install the Essential version only for the NPCs I want to set Essential? Will there be any conflict if an NPC is in ini files from both versions?
You can use them, but not at the same time, you can put one moments, then replace it with another, what type ( Protected or Essential ) will be installed at the moment, it will be performed. The change of mods also does not affect to your save game.
Elenwen loses her essential status once the main quest is complete. If I add her to the INI of the protected version so she doesn't randomly die on the road with this mod that lets you kill her, will she still be protected after her essential status is removed?

Protected Fianna conflicts with the The Whispering Door - Quest Expansion mod, where she is going to be killed.

EDIT: The same goes for Narfi and Donnel, who are removed now in the new SkyPatcher version of the mod (1.6), Essential option.
