DESCRIPTION

This mod is inspired by the original Grass Field mod by tamu75, but it doesn't use any assets from it. Grass textures are from vurt, they are color adjusted. And the performance friendly 3 triangle mesh is from JonnyWang13. It also includes some flowers from Cathedral Landscapes for a little variation. Performance is the main goal of this mod.

Grass density is carefully modified to give lush visuals in the distance and also to be performance friendly at the same time. It's tested and adjusted to be used with Skyrim VR, but it's of course usable in SSE. It also includes specially color adjusted textures for terrain lod generation with xLODGEN for seamless fake grass lods in the distance. There is also pregenerated terrain lod files in the downloads for people who don't know or don't want to generate it themselves (Compatible with MystiriousDawn's landscape textures).

Grass is green everywhere (Except frozen marsh which is grey), but there are two versions that make whiterun tundra brown or green. In Recolored version, whiterun tundra and volcanic tundra are brown, Rift grasses are orange and the rest are green.
There is no grass in snowy regions.
It also removes land rocks that are grass (This is done for performance reasons).

All the screenshots are taken with Azurite Weathers + Sensorium Of Stereoscopy ENB + iMinGrassSize=50 in Skyrim VR. MystiriousDawn's landscape textures are used in the screenshots.

Grass brightness is adjusted for use with ENBs. The screenshots are taken with increased saturation (I like it that way myself), so your mileage may vary depending on the weather you use. I provided screenshots with LUT enabled and disabled to show you the difference.

If you want grass to not stick out as much, you can use another landscape texture mod.


Why use this instead of the original or several other variations of Grass Field here on nexus?
  • It's made to be more performance friendly with the new 3 triangle mesh and still have lush visuals in the distance.
  • Density is carefully modified and the new slope-aware placement technique by JonnyWang13 is used to prevent grass in objects. 
  • It's tested and adjusted to be used with Skyrim VR.
  • Includes matching Terrain LODs for seamless fake grass lods OR color adjusted special textures for making your own.


Why use this instead of Cathedral Landscapes?

  • If you like the coloring and visuals of Grass Field more, and you want good performance and seamless terrain lods like Cathedral Landscapes.
  • It doesn't shimmer even if you don't use TAA (I don't).
  • It actually has better performance than Cathedral Landscapes:

I did some tests by toggling grass on and off to see how much it costs for both mods in 3 different locations:

I used the default ini settings that come with the mod:
Grass Field Plus: iMinGrassSize= 50
Cathedral Landscapes: iMinGrassSize= 60

Note that Grass Field Plus is noticeably denser with these settings.

Costs are in Gpu frametimes.

Cathedral Landscapes: 
Save 1: Whiterun Exterior Road: 2.0 ms
Save 2: Whiterun Exterior looking at tundra: 1.4 ms
Save 3: Falkreath Exterior forest: 1.2 ms

Grass Field Plus:
Save 1: Whiterun Exterior Road: 1.6 ms
Save 2: Whiterun Exterior looking at tundra: 1.2 ms
Save 3: Falkreath Exterior forest: 1.0 ms

INSTALLATION

Install with a mod manager.

There are currently three versions. One with green tundra and other with brown tundra and another with brown tundra/volcanic tundra and orange rift grass.


If you are generating terrain lod with xLodgen, install the xLodgen textures for build before and disable it after for seamless fake grass lods. Recommended settings for xLODGEN generation (Size:256). You can also generate Size 1024 ones with these settings, but those can cause laggy lod loading.

You can also use the pregenerated Terrain LOD files which are made with MystiriousDawn's landscape textures.



CONFIGURATION

This mod comes with an ini file for overwriting your ini settings.

iMinGrassSize=50 is the value I use and it's what all my screenshots are taken with. You can increase that value for less grass and more performance, but I think 50 gives the best performance/visual ratio.

I recommend using grass shadows with the mod.
