One of the things that has always annoyed me about Skyrim is the fact that if you decide to adopt kids, it usually involves you sacrificing an enchanting table or alchemy lab.  There's also the fact that with the exception of Severin Manor in Raven Rock, there's no player house that comes fully equipped for crafting from the get go.  Anyway, I decided to fix it, and throw in a few extra goodies.

As well as the usual crafty stuff like armor benches and sharpening wheels, there's also a Skyforge, smelter and chopping block.  Each workbench also has it's own individual storage container for easy sorting and access.  If that's not enough, your friendly Invisible Enchanting Gnomes (1) have created their transmutation tools and each Universal Home Basement comes with a free set!  This set would cost you 45,000 septims if bought seperately, but your good friends at IEG have furnished your basement at no extra cost(2).

Now the standard crafty stuff is self explanatory, but the IEG stuff needs a bit of explanation, so there's a little tutorial which will cover getting to the basement and creating a filled soul gem.  If you download the lite version, which doesn't have the ovens and cookers, then skip down to near the bottom, take a check of installation precautions (basically, it's a good idea to not be in a house at the time) and you're good to go.

First up find the transporter button.  This will be by the main door for the house (in Proudspire, Solitude, it's by the door on the bottom floor). Click this to be transported to the basement.

Once you are  in the basement, go to the chest next to the Skyforge.  Inside that chest, is 560 iron ore which needs to be converted into ebony ore.  To convert iron to ebony it takes 20 iron ore for every ebony ore, and we need 28.  Take all the iron.

Turn around and you will see (from left to right) the IEG Ore Converter, the IEG Gem Cooker, and the IEG Soul Gem Oven, and their respective controls above them.  Go to the ore converter and place the 560 iron in  it.  Above the converter are 3 buttons - "Convert Ore Up", "Convert Ore, Down", and "Convert Ore Chain".  I'll go into detail later, but for now we want to select "Convert Ore Chain".  You'll get a notification tell you the conversion was successful, and inside the Ore Converter will be 28 ebony.

Now these need to be converted into diamonds, and to do this we'll use the IEG Gem Cooker.  The Gem Cooker can convert certain ores to gems at various costs in ore, but for now we need the diamonds so put the 28 ebony ore in the Gem Cooker.  Press the button above it to activate the Gem Cooker, and after the success notification, open the Gem Cooker.  Inside will be 2 diamonds.  Take these diamonds out.

The penultimate step is to create empty black soul gems.  The IEG Soul Gem Oven can convert different types of gems to soul gems, and diamonds will give 2 black soul gems for each diamond.  We need 4 black soul gems so put the 2 diamonds in the oven.  Above the oven to the left is a button to "Bake Soul Gems (Empty)", so click this.  Once complete, if you look in the Soul Gem Oven you'll see that the 2 diamonds have been converted to 4 black soul gems.  Leave them there for now.

Finally the soul gems need to be filled with souls.  Each filled soul gem costs 3 empty soul gems.  Click the button to the top right that says "Bake Soul Gems (Filled)".  Once the gems have been filled with the souls of the damned, open the Gem Oven and you'll see there's one filled black soul gem, and one empty one which is left over.  All the IEG transmutation tools will only take what they need to create an individual ore, and any ores left over will remain in tact.

OK, so a bit more about the Ore Converter and Soul Gem Oven.

As mentioned, the Ore Converter has two extra buttons - "Convert Ore Up" and "Convert Ore Down".

"Convert Ore Up" will go through iron to gold and turn the ore into the next ore up.  The order is: Iron > Corundum > Orichalcum > Quick SIlver > Silver > Moonstone > Malachite > Gold > Ebony.  The ore conversion rate is 1:1 except for Iron which takes 10 ore to create 1 corundum, and gold which costs 2 malachite.  "Convert Ore Down" does the same in reverse, but provides 2 malachite for each gold, and 10 iron for each corundum.

The big difference with "Convert Ore Chain" is that it will attempt to hoover up any ore in it and try and covert it to ebony.  Just load it up with a load of different ores and they'll be converted to ebony ore.  It is possible that the converter will stop early if there's not enough ore to progress through one of the steps, but it will leave the ore as far along as it could go.

The Gem Cooker converts selected ore to gems.  The cost of gems is:
Diamond - 14 Ebony Ore
Emerald - 12 Gold Ore
Sapphire - 14 Malachite Ore
Ruby - 7 Moonstone Ore
Amethyst - 5 Silver
Garnet - 4 Quicksilver

When using the Soul Gem Oven the conversion of gems to soul gems is:
Diamond - 2 Black Soul Gems
Emerald - 3 Grand Soul Gems
Sapphire - 4 Greater Soul Gems
Ruby - 4 Common Soul Gems
Amethyst - 5 Lesser Soul Gems
Garnet - 10 Petty Soul Gems

Converting  empty soul gems is done at a rate of 3 empty for one filled. regardless the size of the soul gem.

To get home (the previous home you were at) just click the home button in the corner or open your map and go somewhere as fast travel from the basement is supported.  I haven't included Severin or any of the player "estates" because they already have the stuff (or the ability to craft it).  This also only works with vanilla homes, and not any custom houses.

Alternatively, you can use the Tome of Ad Cella (found inbetween the enchanting table and alchemy lab) to learn the Ad Cella spell and get some Clavis ad Cella(3) potions which will teleport you to the basement wherever you are.  If you use the Ad Cella spell or potion you will only be able to leave the basement via the map, and not by using the button in the corner of the basement.

When you use the tome to get the Clavis ad Cella potion it will give you 2 of them.  This is to enable you to be able to favourite them and click and go.  When you use one you will be given another potion to replace the one you've used so you don't lose your favourite which happens if you are to run out.  In the event you somehow run out, lose them or something, simply read the Tome of Ad Cella again, and it will give you the right amount of potions (it checks to see if you have at least 2).

Special information about the spell and potion:  They can be used to teleport out of dungeons and places where you shouldn't really be jumping out of midway through.  In certain dungeons and areas this can result in a lock out where a gate may drop and you can't get back in on your return.  It can also cause certain areas to glitch out, and you'll find quests end up in a state where you can't complete them and other weird things.  Basically if you're in an area that a quest is taking place in, or pretty much any dungeon, don't use the spell.  If you do and something goes wrong, then I can't help.  Remember to spell and potion responsibly.

When you install this mod, it might be a good idea to not be in any of the homes.  I've had success installing it with a save in Breezeholme, but your mileage may vary.

So that's about it.  Love/hate/perform bizarre experiments on it.

Oh footnotes...
1 - The Invisible Enchanting Gnomes really exist in Tamriel, but due to them being invisible you just can't see them.
2 - IEG reserve the right to use your basement as a show basement for IEG products, and you agree to allow all potential clients permission to visit should they choose.
3 - I apologise if my Latin is a little rusty and the translation is wrong - I dropped it when I got to my GCSE options.
