I've seen it, very comprehensive though a bit of spaghetti mix of mods and patches. From what I've seen though, the creator or team behind it seems open to patching their amalgamation to an extent.
You can use the patch without the overhaul, but the characters will have the black face bug. I am not sure what HMB face gen is so I cannot speak on what it might do.
Removing the need for the visual overhaul is very easy though, if you're willing to do it yourself: just open the esp in xEdit, open the female apprentice's record under NPCs, and make sure that her headparts are the same as the original instead of errors. This will remove the need for the visual overhaul. If you're uncomfortable with that, don't worry as I'm planning to upload this version when I get a chance.

If I am using Immersive College NPCs and Obsure's College of Winterhold, but NOT Faces of Wintehold... do I need the patch you made for Immersive College NPCs?
The patch for ICNs and OCW just makes it so their added NPCs have the same naming style as Inconsequential NPCs, e.g. Apprentice or Scholar instead of Onuja or Tarakel. It forwards some changes made by Obscure's Faces of Winterhold (ICNs version only) so that's why that is recommended, but I think you could open it up with SSEEdit and remove the forwarded changes.

It's amazing and could use some of your patching magic if you ever feel so inclined.
