About this mod

This is a simple modification that allows the player to craft Black Soul Gems using the Atronach Forge.

Black soul gems are great fun for the adventurer with dubious morals. With the large amount of human enemies carrying around their useful Grand souls, it's always nice to have a few gems handy to help relieve them of their burden. Unfortunately, the most consistent source of black soul gems comes from bonking either Enthir or Falion to reset their inventory over and over. While you can get lucky and find some in rogue wizard and necromancer dungeons, I wanted a more consistent and deliberate option, specifically one that didn't involve exploiting game mechanics. At the same time, I always felt that the Atronach Forge was underutilized in the vanilla game, despite being such a cool concept. So, why not fill two needs with one deed?

Details:
  • Black soul gems can now be crafted through the Atronach Forge, requiring a Human Heart and either a Grand or Greater empty soul gem.
  • This is a base recipe, and does not require a sigil stone.
  • The recipe note itself has been added to the same leveled lists as the Vanilla recipes, and so can be found in the same way.

Requirements:
There are no requirements for this mod outside of Skyrim itself.

Installation:
Download and install through your preferred mod manager. This mod should be safe to install at any point. While I do not foresee any issues should you decide to uninstall it during a playthrough, I do not recommend doing so, just as a general rule. I will be unable to provide any troubleshooting assistance if you decide to do so.

Compatibility:
The Vanilla records altered by this file are the Atronach Forge Recipe and Result lists, as well as the Atronach Forge recipe leveled lists for enemies and chests. So long as another mod does not alter these values, this should be fully compatible with it.

I have included optional versions of this mod that are compatible with Umgak's fantastic armor expansion mod, aMidianBorn Armor Variants Lite, and SomethingObscure's excellent quest expansion mod, Finding Velehk Sain, both of which add new recipes to the Atronach Forge.

All versions of this mod are ESL-flagged, and will not take a slot from your 255 plugin limit.

Credits:

Umgak for their AVL mod (and a whole bunch of other patches I use).
SomethingObscure for the Velehk Sain overhaul (and their large collection of truly exceptional work).
