Thank you for the port! For people who are confused:

Become a Bard SE by Pevey
    - Original SE port before SKSE was available so It does not have MCM
    Become a Bard (MCM Restored)
    - SE port of the original LE. No support offered, comment closed
Bards Reborn Student of Song Become a Bard Expansion with Bard Spells
    - SE port of the original LE with additional features for Bards College, quests, spells, and NPC dialogue
Become a Bard Ported For SE (which is this one)
    - SE port of the original LE. Comment open.

So let's say I have the LE version of Become a Bard, and I want to update it for an EXISTING playthrough. I have gotten the quest to retrieve Olaf's Verse, but have not pursued it. I haven't even stepped foot in the college, got the quest in the Winking Skeever. Will updating to this mod, and deleting the old one, bonk my save? Or totally stable? My gut tells me it is somewhere in the middle. I'm going to try it even if I don't get a response, but I'll store the Songbook, the bard's journal, and all instruments in a different cell beforehand, just in case.

EDIT: I have a downgraded version of AE that acts like SE, but with the creation club content. I also have no mods that are dependent on Become a Bard LE

I was super excited when I saw this and downloaded straight away but then I had to revert back to Pevey's original port without the MCM. The original port by Pevey has the esp named BecomeABard your esp is named LPBards. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with this if you just want the main part of the mod but 2 expansions that I regularly use. become a bard Caslyn's songbooks and become a bard  Anduniel songbook expansion, will not work with your port because they have a hard requirement for BecomeABard.esp . Is it possible to get a work around for this. Even so congrats on porting this it is one of my favorite mods.

A way to get around a required plug-in you do not want is to download this :
      Empty ESL and ESP

Name the ESL BecomeABard.esp. Poof-done.  I do this with mods like Keep it Clean.  There are mods that require it but I don't want it, so I use an empty ESL to fulfill the requirement.

You can use Wyre Bash to change the required master.

Renaming the custom songbook and its song titles doesn't get saved, every time i load up the game again it gets reverted to Custom Songbook, Song 1, Song 2 etc.

Apparently, this bug was acknowledged by Pevey as far back as 2015 and has never been fixed. That's a bummer. I recommend not using this renaming feature, as it will break whenever you reload the game.

The mod looks great but I CTD when I try to play with another bard. Any ideas?

Skyrim CTD when entering Anise's Cabin's Cellar, I think because there is a drum and flute in there.  Not sure why it would CTD for that small interior cell.  I installed the older Become a Bard MCM Restored and all is well, but it has reported bugs of not getting the dialogue to buy songbooks working so this is quite the pickle T_T

Comment open so at least people can troubleshooting together...
I think eventually everyone on the Nexus will port this mod and list it.  It's THAT good and that is a testament to Pevey!
I closed comments on my MCM Restored port because people were asking for changes to the original mod and acting entitled.  My only intention was to faithfully port ver 5.0 as Pevey built it and restore the MCM.  I did that.  There was nothing more to say at that point.  There was no "helping" each other. The comments devolved into bickering (as they always seem to) and name calling and to end it I shut them down.  This is why we can't have nice things from some of our favorite previous mod-authors.  They get burnt on the entitlement and the endless whining.

As for the other new version Bards Reborn- I think that mod looks great.  It builds on to Pevey's work with a fresh direction. Haven't tried it as the original is what I wanted.

Anyway there's the explanation of why comments are closed on my port.

I'm speaking for the community and not Neil I guess but you may very well have some insights to share from your experience with this mod. Thank you for commenting here. I hope my comments here didn't sound disrespectful, I did not intend for them to!

I never assume malice.  Anything and everything there is to know about ver. 5.0.7 has been discussed on the LE page ad nauseum.  It is now the EXACT same mod.  There is no reason to chew over all it again just for "convenience sake" of not clicking over to the OG mod page.  This is my opinion but that just seems like lazy modding.  I am down to help those who try to help themselves.  I am NOT here to DIY anyone's mod set-up who can't be bothered to learn how the whole thing works.  ESPECIALLY when there are so many tutorials and tools now.

Maybe I am just old and jaded.  I can live with that.

      Be well and Happy Modding!

      Sounds perfectly reasonable.

I have met the toxic side of our community. I've also enjoyed the kindness and help of strangers who helped me get me out the ignorance I found myself in. There is always more that we don't know than what we know. It's no fun to have someone be a jerk. Yet it's a blessing when you meet the kind soul who had a similar problem as you did and is willing to share their solution.

My 2 cents for what it's worth, which probably isn't much tbh.  In the world of modding, I'm relatively new, I got this game back in the day for the 360, played it to death and after a year finally moved on to different pastures.  When the remake came out on the xbone, I got it.  That was only about four months ago, and that was simply figuring that mods would likely improve the game some.  I. Had. No. Idea.  But the limitation of 5 gigs for the mods prompted me to save for a computer, with a little luck, friends who know things and the Big Guy, I got a computer, a real monster, just for this game.  "What do you want?"  "I want to run Skyrim like the people on youtube who make everyone wonder how their computers don't light on fire when a bandit arrives."

      Why does this story matter?

There are a ton of tutorials, like, many tons.  But from a new mod user's experience, it is oversaturation if anything and trying to sus out what advice is ancient and everyone knows about so they don't even bother to bring it up, from what is outdated and now-defunct has been a learning curve equivalent to the first month of elite dangerous... with a kaioken times three...  Finally, I got a good tutorial list on youtube from gamerpoets that explained a lot, but I didn't even know to look at the original mod page for problems until well after a month into the process and I figured it out just through pure luck or osmosis or some such.  So while I will now always go back to the OG mod page, hearing tips on the port page is still useful if for no other reason than because I can see new workarounds for se that the OG page won't always go into.  Anyway, saying all that to say, this is a mod I'm looking forward to trying, thanks for the port, the comment section here will likely be a useful resource.

I understand the frustration toward entitled users and I apologize for my wording as I didn't mean to disrespect you. Like what OnasKnox said, when I was new to modding and encountered difficulty and issue, of course first I will try to look for tutorials or try to google to see if anyone else have the same problem. Posting on a mod page to ask for help is always my last resort but still an effective and direct way to learn the answer. In the case of ported mod, even tho the feature may be the same, LE and SE is entirely different and problems that occurred in SE system do not always have the same solution as in LE. Hence it is not really useful to look for SE related issue from LE mod page. It is just my humble opinion. Thank you guys for porting mod :)

I actually had no intention of trying this mod, but after seeing all the love for it in the comments I may just change my mind.  There are some real gems that get ported from LE, and sadly they end up getting buried in the volumes of mods on the Nexus.  So good show.

Luck be with you in your quest! May you find more more Sanguine than you do Sheogorath. It was not my intention to duplicate effort or cause confusion. Rather I hope that folks get to enjoy this truly awesome, personal opinion, mod.

Someone's gonna ask so let me be first. There's a version actually posted by Pevey here for SE already and others as well. What is different about this version?

      I'll help you out lol.
I read the MCM restored SE version page and got this in regards to the Pevey port in 2016: "The original conversion by the author Pevey was before SKSE was available for SE so the MCM and the combined songbook functionality weren't available."

I just checked the LE page for this mod and see that it is at v5.0 and was updated in 2018 or in other words 2 years after Pevey's original port.

Excellent work, I'm gonna try it out!

This mod already has the mcm restored tho, along with some new stuff using SkVAsynth https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/47994.  And this port would be the exact same as this one if the only difference from pevey's port is the MCM  https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/46206

If I duplicated effort I'll be happy to take it down. Just didn't find it when I went looking months back. Had to learn how to do it myself as I really wanted to play it again.

That one says "NO SUPPORT IS OFFERED FOR THIS MOD. DO NOT GO AND BUG PEVEY FOR ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS MOD. I WILL REMOVE THE MOD IF I HEAR OF SUCH.

It has the exact same "quirks" as the original. So go read that LE description."

Idk what the quirks are but the MCM says no support. Maybe Neil is different!

Don't take this one down. The MCM one says v1.01 but it does appear that you directly ported 5.0 so I'd stick with that.

The port I linked was posted only a few months ago, and the LE modpage hasn't been updated since 2018.  Even though the version of the port says 1.01 I highly doubt they would port an older version of the mod. So I don't know if the possibility of support would prevent it from being removed if the port is entirely redundant. The file size is exactly the same as well. o.O

XD You probably shouldn't take it down since you got perms from the author unless a mod here asks you to tho, or they might just remove it. Idk if that's even a rule, just seemed a bit strange to see the same port twice. We'll see how it goes ig. It is nice to have a port with comments enabled.

This does seem a little confusing to me.  I have the other mod, and it seems to get updated.   I'm guessing I don't need this mod if I already have the other mod?

I am not aware of infringing on any rules or regulations. I can tell you that when I was uploading the file there were several notices reminding me that I did not have permission to use someone else's intellectual property without their express permission. Thought that was nice of Nexus to throw that in there. I' d imagine it happens far far more than any mod author would like.

I'd be happy to offer what help I could. The problem is I'm definitely more a mod user than anything else. I just felt inspired to go do some learning to bring this port about because I missed the mod in my playthroughs.
