Guys, please, read the description, seriously :D It's the first step to getting any mod working - reading about how it works ;) Since the basic functionality is still often questioned here, even though it's explained there, here's a very brief, very simple step by step list on how to change someone's outfit. If you want to do more or if you have any issues, look at the description and if it's not covered by it, then I will be more than happy to help you with any bugs or issues in the comments :)
1. Equip the ring 2. Interact with an NPC and choose the 'Dress' option 3. Give the NPC the desired items 4. Close the interaction window (the NPC will equip the items automatically) 5. Interact with the NPC again and choose the 'Lock' option so that they don't change their outfit on reload. 6. Done :)
That's it :) I hope that this helps. You can do more with the ring, of course, but this is the very basic functionality that people seem to have issues with at times. For more details, I will again refer you to the... you guessed it, description ;)
Enjoy this awesome mod and thank you for all the endorsements :) This mod definitely deserves it. (And I can say that because I didn't create it :D )
Thank you for your part in making this mod available! This is my first time adding mods to Skyrim, these past few days have been many hours of figuring them out and troubleshooting. This mod pairs perfectly with Simple Follower Extension. What I found with this mod is that uninstalling and manually re-downloading was the key to getting it to work, as mentioned a bunch below. Whether its the other mods i am using or a consistent problem i don't know, but I just had a hell of an hour trying to get Sven to co-operate before i read the posts here.
And oh to my surprise when after confirming that Sven was being a good boy now, we ran back into Riverwood. I had tested the ring on just about everyone in town and was frustrated it didn't seem to do anything, but apparently it worked. Right at the gate walking by is a dark elf in his underwear... 10/10 experience, Riverwood is a nudists colony and I would recommend this for anyone who feels that the other options for multiple follower mods are a little bit too much :D
:D I always thought Riverwood needed to be a little more fun and open-minded :D I'm glad you figured out the way. Thank you for the great comment :) I'm glad you're enjoying the mod and finding it useful. I have no idea why the manager download is an issue. It's a Vortex-specific one as far as I know, but I have no idea why it's particularly common with this mod :/ Unfortunately, I have no idea what to do with that until that years-long issue is finally fixed in Vortex. Good luck with modding :) You're one of us now. You're never gonna stop :D
Can anyone tell me if there's way to have a mod just like this one but have the changes save over new games/savefile. Like i can edit ncps outfit in game, save it and and even if i make a new save game they will still have on the modded outfit I gave them before? Thanks
Not as easily as you probably want, but you can achieve that with SPID and some tinkering. I wish there was a way for SPID to export current outfits and create a setup from those. Still, it might be what you're looking for if you're willing to delve into making your own setups.
I have a problem with this modem and do not know what the cause is . I can dress an NPC and it works perfectly but when I leave the NPC alone and come back to him later he is naked and I have blocked the change of clothes
First of all, make sure the message says 'gears are locked' when you lock the outfit. You might be accidentally unblocking them instead. Also try redownloading the mod manually and reinstalling (something could have gone wrong there)
If all that is done and in the clear and this is still happening, let me know if it's just one specific NPC that it happens to, or is it all oft them? If it's a specific one - which one? Vanilla or modded? Do you use any overhauls on that NPC that alters their behavior? Do you use any other dreessing system?
I reinstalled it from scratch and it even helped . Occasionally it does this with new characters but then I click Release and Remove Default and it fixes itself.
I'm having what may or may not be a problem, I'm seeing hundreds of these warnings in Papyrus log file, all with different 'subjectXXX' values.
WARNING: Property DudestiaNudeOutfit on script DudestiaOutfitChangerSubjectScript attached to alias subject389 on quest DudestiaOutfitChangerQuest (FE0BAD63) cannot be initialized because the script no longer contains that property
WARNING: Property Alias_subject257 on script QF_DudestiaOutfitChangerQues_02000D63 attached to DudestiaOutfitChangerQuest (FE0BAD63) cannot be initialized because the script no longer contains that property
I know I looked into this before and I could answer more specifically if the comment search worked, but in any case, iirc, this is just a remnant from a previous version of the LE mod that included different means of applying outfits. In any case though, it doesn't do anything bad. You can just ignore those :)
Hey weird one, but firstly, thank you for this awesome mod!
The mod works as intended, although even when I unequip the ring, or put it in my storage, the options to dress, lock, release etc are still present when talking to any NPC. Thoughts?
Thank you :) and that's very odd :O What kind of storage is that? Is it a vanilla container, or a modded storage chest (possibly one accessible from anywhere in the game). It's possible, depending on how the mod works, that it would consider items in there as still part of your inventory. Though the ring should only do that while equipped. Still, worth looking into the storage, if it's a mod you use. If not, sorry if it's a basic question, but is this a persistent issue? Did you try quitting the game and then loading it up again to see if it kept happening?
Non modded storage container in Breezehome (up in the loft next to bed), although I can and will try another storage container when I'm on next, in the same house and a different house. Yes persistent, over 3-4 separate play sessions. Also this happened on every NPC, dead, alive, follower or not.
Also somewhat related question, when 'equipping; the ring, it doesn't show as equipped with the arrow next to the item in your inventory, like a normal ring (or any piece of gear). clicking it made the equip noise, and unequip noise when clicking again. I thought maybe it was bugged a little, hence removing it from my inventory to storage to remove that issue, but the options persist until I quit the game, and disable the mod.
Something strange is going on for sure then. First things first, I'd try to redownoad the mod manually and install it again entirely. If you use Vortex, make sure to remove all the files of the previous install and install it anew. In MO2, just replacing it entirely should be sufficient (don't merge it). If you use the new experimental 10 item limit fix, try it without first. Another thing to check when mods behave oddly, although this in particular isn't a typical symptom (stil, you never know), make sure you are below the ESP+ESM plugin limit of 255 (250 to be on the safe side for future installs). And next, check all your other modded equippable items to see if there is an issue with the equipping with other ones. Maybe another ring in particular. Do they display as equipped properly? Those would be the first things to consider and if it still persists, we'll go from there. It's likely it would be some odd mod conflict if none of these are the issue.
So got home today, uninstalled the mod, deleted the archive and re downloaded and installed, everything working. Didn't get a chance to test anything else as it wasn't needed. Was then thinking of what changed between then and now..
The Ring of Hircine quest... I hadn't finished it until last night, so the Hircine ring was taking up my ring slot therefore the outfit ring was not equipping (hence the arrow next to the item not changing). It threw me because the mod functions as normal, let you do outfits etc, but you couldn't remove the outfit option when interacting with NPCs. So trap for new players, if your ring slot is locked to a quest ring, this mod will act a bit funny, through no fault of it's own imo.
Thanks for your help mate, glad to have this mod enabled again as it makes outfit management so simple and easy.
This is very interesting :O And a good rare issue you found there. Never would have thought of that :D Thank you for letting me know about it and I'm glad it works now :)
i'm trying to make it so when i start a new game that i dont get a bunch of random items forced into my beginner inventory from mods, i want to keep the start real clean,
this mod adds the ring of fashion designer to my starter character right when the game starts
i opened this mod up in xEdit. where do i start looking, so i can simply disable that one part. then if i want the ring of fashion design later, i can look in my cheat menu and create it.
Hi :) sure thing. It should be under the added Quest (DudestiaOutfitChangerQuest). Click on that and there look under DNAM - General. There click on the flags and disable 'Start Game Enabled' and 'Start Enabled' flags (only the Run Once will then remain ticked - though I suppose that one might be redundant at that point, but I didn't mess with that one) That should do it :) A friend of mine tested it and it worked as it should.
what i tried, i deleted those 2 entries that refered to ring of fashion designer, then i started a new game it didnt give me the ring, so maybe thats it right there
But I'll turn off that DNAM too !! the flag for Start Game Enabled.
Careful about deleting the entries. Some mentioning the ring include the perk that lets you change outfits on equip. But maybe, I can't claim to know for sure what happens. In case you have any issues, just undoing the flags should be sufficient. The less you delete the better imho :D Many of the entries include things you might not expect.
Sure thing :) We're all still learning new stuff regarding modding. Nothing wrong with making changes you want though. I'm just letting you know what might happen if you delete the entries because I thought you only wanted to stop the ring spawning specifically. Digging through the mod and experimenting is definitely its own fun though :)

Pinning your post so that it doesn't get buried.
For those of you who want to fix the issue when NPCs with a negative relationship towards the player don't change clothes, get this patch :)

Use AddItem Menu or equivalent or the console. Details in description in the troubleshooting section.
