About this mod

Armor Enchantments now require 'energy' (vitality) to function! This affects both the PC AND NPCs who use armor type enchantments!

IF it ever annoyed you that Weapon Enchantments deplete with use, but Armor Enchantments are infinite....or that NPCs don't ever use more than 1-2 enchanted items = then THIS mod is for YOU!

*New Improved Version 2 is easy on your CPU!

....Have you ever found it strange that:

1. Weapon Enchantments deplete with use while Armor Enchantments don't...is there actually a Lore based reason for this?
2. Why are you the only powerful/rich being who wears tons of Enchanted Gear?  ....even Harkon only wears 2 pieces of enchanted gear, and he is hundreds of years old + rich!

Turns out that there actually is a potential Lore based answer to these questions!  IF you read 'Enchanter's Primer' (written by the Enchanting Mage at the College of Winterhold), you'll get a possible reason for why Armor Enchantments don't deplete.

One of the theories (in the book) is that Armor Enchantments drain tiny amounts of the users vitality (or soul energy) in order to function.  So, the Armor Enchantment slowly siphons off it's user's lifeforce (or possibly soul) in order to function indefinitely.

Since Armor Enchantments only take tiny amounts of energy from the user, it seems like people don't consider this to be an issue....or they might not even really notice...

NOTICE how VERY FEW NPCs actually wear more than 1 Enchanted item!  It's almost like they are operating as though my Mod was how enchantments were supposed to work in the first place!  It would explain why you don't see every rich NPC wear 10+ magic items!

*the only 2 NPCs to wear several pieces of enchanted gear are the Ebony Warrior (7) and Miraak (4)!  ...the Ebony Warrior's stats are so high, he can afford the Vitality drain from wearing that much gear!

So what does this Mod do?

Wearing a single enchanted piece of armor (jewlery/clothing) now adds a WEAK 'drain vitality' effect to the PC/NPC.  This is a -1 to stats and -1% to stat regenerates.

It doesn't matter if a piece has multiple enchantments on it, it still only counts as 1 enchanted piece!

Each additional worn enchanted piece of armor MULTIPLIES the effect.  So 1 = -1, 2 = -2, 3 = -4, 4 = -8, 5 = -16, and so on.  So, wearing 2 or 3 enchanted pieces of armor/clothing/jewelry = barely noticeable!  Wearing 7 items = you WILL notice!

What's more, Artifacts exact an even heavier price.  So 1 = -3, 2 = -6, 3 = -12, 4 = -24, and so on.

Since the Lore suggests that people don't really notice the drain, I made the penalty for wearing only a few items and/or a single artifact very weak!

That said, piling on 10+ enchantments+artifacts could potentially even kill you (for those of you who use mods that add scarfs/cloaks/earrings/bags + allow stacking diadems under helmets)!

*NOTE:  To avoid confusion, Penalties do NOT increase over time.  It's not a 'damage over time' effect or anything like that.  So you can Fast Travel without issue!

Compatibility

It's compatible with EVERYTHING!  It doesn't replace ANY Values/Entries!

If it stops functioning, be sure to use the latest versions of the mod + supporting mods (It stopped functioning once for me when I had updated Keyword Distributor without also updating the Power of Three Tweaks that Keyword Distributor requires).

Version 2 uses the 'Keyworld Item Distributor' Mod = this version is VERY EASY on your CPU.  Earlier versions of my mod demanded a lot of CPU power.

*Keyword Item Distributor doesn't apply penalties to any Player Crafted Enchanted Worn Items!  So Ver.2 doesn't add drain effects to Player crafted enchanted armor/clothing/jewelry......the game can't see that player made enchanted items are actually enchanted (well, the smithing mechanics can, but that doesn't help in regards to this mod).

FinalThoughts

If people think this is too harsh, I can make a 'Light' version that reduces the Drain penalty per additional enchanted piece.

I like how this mod provides an answer for why the people (especially rich NPCs) of Nirn don't all wear tons of enchanted clothing/armor.....they find it slightly unpleasant/uncomfortable.  Even if it is a barely perceptible drain on their Vitality (or soul), people would instinctively avoid such discomfort unless necessary.

*This mod has good synergy with my '100 Resistance Cap AND NO Stacking Enchantments or Alchemy' mod.  It's not necessary, but you might enjoy the extra layer of Lore based tweeks.
