Love it, great mod! And a good selection of classics! Yet no CTDs. Museums paintings always bored me, now you gave them sense! BTW your requirement seems to be a soft one, I just ignored it and everything's working fine.
Hey, I think I identified the source of the occasional CTD and fixed it. You have one texture - canvasmc101.dds - that's 1025 x 512 dimension. Texture dimensions always have to be in powers of two, or else CTDs can happen. I just popped it into GIMP, resized it to 1024 x 512, and no more CTD. :) I looked through all the others and didn't find any more with odd dimensions. I can send the fixed texture to you if you'd like, just let me know.
This is a beautiful selection of paintings, thank you!
Thanks the the report, and thanks more for Dynamic Cart Horses! Glad to see both favorite horse appearance mods in my game.
I have not done versioning, like a fool, so when I updated early on some people probably didn't update. My bad. The new version, 1, has this corrected I believe with all files the same size as the original paintings. Next version with zero ETA will have larger files but with appropriate dimensions, no nudes in the main file, and a better sourced deathbell painting for the quest conclusion.
These are great! My least favorite part of the LotD museum has always been that hall of awful paintings. Now I'm looking forward to filling it up. More like the Met and less like the MoMA. xD
There is currently a game crashing issue with the compression format of some of these. I'm working on fixing it. The current file has been optimized with Cathedral Assets Optimizer, but I don't know if that fixed it. If not I may hide the mod until I figure out how to make texture mods properly.
I will keep an eye out as I'm putting them up then....if one crashes I can always hide that file in MO and let you know. (Assuming I can figure out which one it is.)
Upthread the latest file seems to be ok, but if you get any crashing with that file, let me know and I'll deep dive into texture how-to and figure it out.
Too bad you can't add something with a minimum description of the painting (who did that, when, etc). There was an old morrowind mod which added a castle full of this kind of paintings with a description for each, it was very impressive ! But here it's only textures, so it's impossible...
That would be cool, except the paintings are part of the story in Interesting NPCs about a painter and these are supposed to be his paintings, so it would break immersion.
Is anyone else still having an issue with taking Maroux's Painting from the safe in the Treasury House? I get a CTD when Interesting Paintings is installed, but no problem when it is disabled. GIMP reports a DDS image Message: Unsupported DXGI format (99) on most of the dds files. Only canvasmc0205.dds through canvasmc0210.dds seem valid on my PC.
My game still crashes even with the 16 April version of this mod when the Maroux's Painting cell is loading upon picking up the painting from the Markarth Treasury House safe. If I disable this mod, I can successfully enter the Maroux's Painting cell, and save and load that cell. If I enable this mod, and load a save made within the M's Painting cell, the game again does a CTD. Note: The version of Interesting NPCs that I use is from the http://3dnpc.com/ website, not the version available here on nexusmods.com
Uploaded new file with sizes the same as 3DNPC and compression type linear instead of RGB and no mipmaps. Hopefully that solves the problem, if not I'll do a deep dive into texture files in the next few days and get to the bottom of it. If anyone has a save where you can check the new file, I'd appreciate it.
I had a save, and after installing the version you uploaded on 18 April 2021 9:38PM, the crashes I was getting are totally gone. Thanks for all the additional effort you put into this mod, the paintings you chose are really beautiful. Too bad you couldn't find a pic with deathbells (or something like them) in the final painting to sync with the mod's final dialog in the Radiant Raiment, but I'm totally appreciative of all your hard work. Thanks!
canvaslc0102. The color of the flowers doesn't matter, there is no mention of the color of the deathbells in the painting. Current painting is of a woman standing in a blue dress playing a yellowish colored stringed instrument. But it's a pretty minor issue, definitely not quest breaking.
Uploaded a new file with death bells on that canvas. Hybrid of popular colors. Used the harp painting to replace the Lady Godiva since I'm phasing out nudity.
Deathbells update worked fine. More cowbells! Is it just me, or does the deathbells picture suffer from a lower resolution than the rest of your choices? I miss you already, Godiva!
Missed this somehow. Yes I altered a photo of a real plant to try to make it look like a painting. I plan to replace it with maybe Georgia O'Keefe if I find a good one, but I'll come up with something one way or another. If Lady Godiva doesn't find her way back in, I'll make a version with her in it. All of this assuming I continue to find time to do this. :D
LOL, Just noticed that these are trying to overwrite wyrmstooth upscalled textures on my manager. If this is correct then this is for wyrmstooth and not 3DNPC??????? what is going on??????
Nevermind I have found that they are in both. Basically if you want these paintings and you have more than 3DNPC installed which uses the AX folder of paintings then these paintings will be in all of the mods obviously. Still good and still installed. Nice one.
I think you're the one I was talking with about combining lighting mods on another mod page. If so, I'd love to see how your lighting setup has come along. I'm pretty in love with Ravaak, but I'm interested in getting weather lighting to affect interior lighting if that's possible.
Hi, these are all great choices, but which paintings do they replace in interesting npcs? I remember a couple in the quest "A Thousand Words", so i assume some must be for there, but are there any other?
No idea. I started replacing paintings in other small mods for my game, and then realized that the original folder structure, so far as I can tell is from 3DNPCs, so I just extracted the bsa and replaced all of the paintings in it. They were all really low quality, so I'll be surprised if they were integral to the stories.
Good to know. I actually did it because I like some mods that use the same folder structure, like Blue Palace Terrace, The Golden Hen, and many more, and this was instead of just deleting all of the painting references in the esp or the painting nifs.
It is called "A Thousand Words", it is a quest about a really talented but cursed painter that you get by visiting the back room of Radiant Raiment. At least now she will look talented. Before she only looked cursed.
Nudity tag is technically appropriate, but since these are all famous works of fine art found in public museums, I wouldn't say they are unsuitable for work or children. I'll consider a version without any nudity, since this mod won't reach many people who would want it because they filter their searches with that tag.

Be well
And you're welcome for the cart horses! :)

Oh, and ENDORSED.
Edit: Uploaded new file. Thanks again for pointing out that error!
If that doesn't fix it, I'll do them all from scratch with the same size and compression as the originals.
Is there dialog about the color of the deathbells? I'll probably do something black and white because people mod the color of those in their game.
