Skyrim Special Edition

About this mod

Tired of clothing magically changing into a totally different design just because of the gender of the character wearing it? Fret no more! This ESL-flagged plugin adds new matching versions for the four sets of farmer and two sets of merchant clothing. Now what you see IS what you get...no matter who puts it on!

I like when things match. I like when what I see in my inventory (or the chest I'm rummaging through, or the corpse I'm looting, etc) looks at least close to the end result of what's going to show up on my character or follower when I equip it. To that end, I've reshaped the meshes of the vanilla farmer and merchant clothes to create matching versions for all of them. I also made matches for and split the farmer03 hood out into both a short and a long version. I additionally adjusted the original long female hood so that it would fit both versions of the robes better. This effectively doubles the variety in clothing that you'll find on your everyday folk in Skyrim!

(Looking for something stranger? Check out Uncommon Clothing to find the same thing done for the vampire robes, mourner clothes, and wench dress/tunic or Crafter Clothing for the blacksmiths, barkeeps, and chefs, or Unique Clothing for Nocturnal, Cicero, and the executioner!)

You can find one of each farmer/merchant outfit in the Sack of Old Clothes in the windmill outside of Whiterun.

Files Options:
  • Main File - pairs and adds matching versions for all farmer/merchant clothes.
  • Dresses Only - replaces all the farmer and merchant tunics/pants with dresses.
  • Pants Only - replaces all the farmer and merchant dresses with tunics/pants.
  • Reverse - swaps the dresses into trousers and the trousers into dresses; everyone's clothes are switched!
  • Flatter Bosoms - alternate female tunics/trousers with flatter chests. Install after any of the other files and overwrite.
  • Loose Files - nothing but the meshes, suitable for use as a modder's resource (see permissions below).
  • WACCF Patch - provides compatibility for Weapons Armor Clothing and Clutter Fixes, created by ironpoisax and then YFish.
  • Combined WACCF Patch - a compatibility patch for WACCF for all three of my vanilla clothing match mods in one. It requires all three of them!

Compatibility:
No NPCs were directly altered. This mod will not affect facegen! However, because the clothes they wear have been altered, you will see NPCs in the new variations. New clothes have been added to the leveled lists as well, so you'll want to make yourself a bashed patch! Otherwise it should be compatible with everything, and since it's almost entirely using vanilla assets it will be improved automatically by any texture replacers you use.

There is some mesh-overlap with this and Uncommon Clothing and your mod manager will consequently warn you of conflicts. They are the same meshes, so you can overwrite either one with the other without issue!

Note that because this mod is designed to make outfits match, half of the new clothes were assigned to the existing items in place of their non-matching counterpart. The other half were then combined with their matches as new items. In the interest of greatest variety, I alternated which item kept the pants or dress as the "original" entry, and which was assigned to the new item. I did not touch any NPC records directly which means I did not choose what each NPC will be wearing individually. I don't know who is going to be wearing the dress and who is going to be wearing the pants...but you will see both dresses and pants on the NPCs you know regardless of their gender! That is 100% the point of this mod. Don't get angry when it happens!

If the idea of seeing men in dresses and women in pants bothers you, do not download this mod! All homophobic, transphobic, and misogynistic comments will be hidden and optionally reported and the offenders blocked. THERE WILL BE MEN IN DRESSES WITH THIS MOD. Don't download it if you don't want it!

Legendary Edition?
Yes! Thanks to allonsywisegirl, you can now get Common Clothing- Vanilla Matches for Legendary Edition!

Permissions: Mostly Open!
This is also a modder's resource! (I've included a "loose files" download that's just the new meshes and altered textures.) Feel free to use these on your followers, for NPC overhauls, on characters in quests, new lands, dungeons, etc etc. You may include these assets directly in those mods and you do not need to require either the esp or the loose files downloads on this page as dependencies. (It is always nice to be credited, though. As simple and even as crappy as some of these look, most of them were quite finicky and required some effort to shape. I'm not going to come screaming for your 8000-line follower or DLC-sized new land mod to be taken down just because you forgot to mention where you got the outfit that Random Farmer A was wearing though, I promise! So don't hesitate to use them if you want them!)

All I ask is that if you're just uploading a variation or improvement of the outfits themselves (e.g. UNP or CBBE versions, retextures, etc) that you make your crediting of my assets extremely clear. I've been accused before of stealing part of someone else's mod because they (with my permission!) used assets I created and somebody didn't notice my name in the credits section. I'd rather avoid repeating that, which means that I'd like any mod that's using them as a primary element (rather than a side-asset) to have explicit and prominent documentation of my work.

UNP/CBBE/UNPB/ETC ETC?
These were all built for the vanilla body. I do not use body-mods myself so I've never bothered to learn how to use Bodyslide so I will not be making dedicated versions for UNP, CBBE, and so forth, sorry. You are welcome to make those yourself, and I will gladly host them here if you like. You may also upload those as patches yourself. I only ask that you upload those as a patch rather than a wholly stand-alone file. (See permissions above.)

HIMBO and 3BA Bodyslides are now available thanks to sebastiendog!
