About this mod

The Windhelm Smelterworks adds an industrial scale smelterworks outside Windhelm, bringing some depth and immersiveness to Skyrim’s heavily mining dependent economy

Want a lore friendly way to not just buy more ingots but also increase the immersiveness of Skryrim’s mining economy?
Yes – Oh boy, do I envy you!
Get ready for the Windhelm Smelterworks.

What is this Mod?
It always bothered me that despite all the mines (and miners) in Skyrim, there was never really that much ore or ingots available for sale. And for that matter given the tech available I’d expect some level of industrialisation around the smelting of ore. And come on, there’s no way Ulfric outfits all the Stormcloak recruits who rock up, out of that one tiny smelter in Windhelm.

Enter the Windhelm Smelterworks! The only business in Skyrim large enough to produce enough refined metal to arm and outfit an entire army, while still being small enough to care about keeping food on the table for the working-class miners of Skyrim.

You’ll find the Windhelm Smelterworks just West of Windhelm outside the city walls. Once you get there, introduce yourself to Hobart, his wife Bryndabella and their ever-vigilant doge Scout the Husky. Hobart is a bit of a dick but Bryn and Scout are nice.

If you’re in the buying mood you can purchase ingots from them (not ore, because that wouldn’t make any sense), just make sure you bring your large coin purse because they only sell in bulk! Bryndabella will also be happy to sell you some of the by products of the smelting process, namely gems which she uses in her side hustle, jewellery smithing. She’ll also sell you a few soul stones that occasionally come in with the loads of they receive.

Compatibility
The only mods that you'll have issues with are ones that edit the Eastern side of Windhelm's exterior. The only popular mod I’ve seen so far that will have issues for sure is Capital Windhelm Expansion, if you use CWE make sure to install the patch provided.

JKs Skyrim is fine, as is Cutting Room Floor, Lanterns of Skyrim II and Windhelm Exterior Altered - beyond that I have no idea, but if you’re concerned about a particular mod let me know and I’ll check it out.

Patches Available For
Capital Windhelm Expansion - by Surjamte
Lanterns Of Skyrim II - by WiZkiD

2.1 Update
Issues related to the Deleted Navmesh have now been fixed. It may take a while for LOOT to recognise the fix so it could still throw up an error, but the problem has been fixed

Installation and Updating
Download and install with your mod manager of choice, then sort with LOOT - no special requirements here.
If you generate your own LOD with DynDOLOD you’ll need to build it again after installing or updating this mod.
***If you are updating from version 1.0, be sure to uninstall completely and install version 2.0 as a new mod. ***

Credit
Huge credit to Dan Ruta for SKVA Synth - xVASynth. All the unique dialogue was made with that tool - I'm still figuring it out, so some of the dialogue is a bit cringe worthy at the moment but I'll keep working at it.

Partial Credit for this mod goes to
catfoodnomz for the mod Ore and Ingots Merchant over on Oldrim.
That mod gave me the general idea, but my ambition was to make it bigger.

WiZkiD for some assets I borrowed from Lanterns Of Skyrim II.

Future
I'm keen to keep developing this mod with a few quests and an even bigger setup for the smelter, but this will also be a fairly niche mod so if anyone has suggestions on directions to go in let me know in the comments.

Working on:
A system to have large amounts of ingots delivered to a player house.
Quest related to the ownership of the Smelterworks.
Custom smelter furniture object that will process large amounts of ore quickly.

For anyone familiar with my other work, there's a patch for The Windhelm Smelterworks over on The Secret Lives of Skyrim NPCs
