Works nice with VR. If you want immersion without accidentally stealing stop taking stuff you don't pay for. That is called stealing. Just loot defeated attackers, don't take gifts people leave at graves, and buy stuff like a decent person. If you want to be a bad guy accept being labeled as a bad guy.

Love the idea and was happy until I got imprisoned for stealing a book - the steal tag isnt visible now. I accidentally stole a book from Sigrid when she was very kindly putting me up after escaping from Helgen. She snatched it out of my pockets and loudly called me a thief - I spluttered my apologies but to no avail, I mean her hubby had told me to help myself!!
A very nice mod but I cant use it because of this.

I mean, couldn't you theoretically use common sense and not take books that most likely belong to someone?

I'm no longer actively modding Skyrim. Even at the time, I didn't consider this an issue. If I remember correctly, my setup used iActivate (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/17305) to show some red marker when approaching the book at first to show it is owned. I'm not 100% certain on that. I have to admit I used modified personal versions of many UI mods, so I might be mixing things up. Please, if someone has tested these two mods together let me know if you can see ownership of books with the right settings of iActivate (before reading the book).

In any case, this mod is offered as-is and won't be updated.

i just tried iActivate, but the book ownership doesnt show, i've tweaked the mcm too still no change, it can only remove the "Read" word. must be your other mod and i couldnt find it :'(

edit: for you guys still want the take/steal to show, here is an alternative mod from oldrim, works for special edition https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/74434

i'm still using this mod though its just feel more immersive

Exceedingly late here but my advise is to use "Pick up boos simple" https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/2453
It? will give you a prompt just like when you pick up any other item, and is just a good mod regardless

Does anyone know if the time still advances when using this mod? I'm on a realistic play through with camping, dynamic time etc, so when laying in my tent at night is a good time to read before sleep, however I don't really want the game paused. When crawling around in a dungeon etc I don't want to break the immersion and read the book with bandits etc around me... Doh.

Could you please make an interface mod that hides the compass whenever you talk to a person? Cause it really distracts from the conversation sometimes.^^

I suggest using iHud, it allows you to toggle the compass on and off with a hotkey. I use it in my games and keep the compass turned off except when I want to find my bearings.

Is there a way to make this mod tell you in the top left corner how many lock picks you have left? Something like how the YOT mod adds first-person messages?

So when you break a lock pick, a message comes up in the top left that says, "I have X lock picks left."

Love the mod by the way. Really adds to my immersive thief playthrough!

I love the immersive book reading - the only issue is that sometimes it's hard to know if pressing "E" will count as stealing a book opposed to taking it. Is there any way to give the player hint whether the book will be stolen by taking it?

In general, if the other things in that cell can't be taken freely it's safe to assume it works similarly for the books.

Books with higher value can count as stealing despite everything else in the area saying take.

I wouldn't mind the indication being subtle, but in areas like Guild houses it can be hard to tell and my white knight character needs to know if he might accidentally steal something.

This is the only drawback I've found to this mod too. When you sneak though does it always say steal no matter what or does it just say take if the book isn't owned?
