Overall, Altered Spell Tomes for Spell Research is a neat utility for us Spell Research fans, but it does introduce a bit of a loop where you are shut out of acquiring spells (thus archetypes) to study through spell tomes.
This patch was designed primarily for those like me who have the original mod and find it's too much to block all access to spells from spell books (thus leaving all discovery of archetypes through the alternate routes of alchemy and artifact study).
Rather than removing the mod, I made this patch. I went into xedit and reverted the novice spells to vanilla. Quick test in game on my save in progess, no problems buying/picking up the tomes and getting spells as usual. I left the higher levels as-is, since I will now have access to the archetypes in novice spells and can go from there.
For the DLC spells, I made some similar choices - i.e. Ash Shell is a tome but higher level ash spells are sold as archetypes.
Quest rewards like Ash Guardian are left as tomes.
Also changed the names on all altered tomes to "Spell Archetypes:___" for clarity in menus (though they will still be marked "Spell Tome" for sorting in the inventory UI).
I also nerfed the costs (-50% or more) on all archetypes - they're really just a recipe after all, not a whole spell.
Load *after* Altered Spell Tomes for Spell Research.
The whole point is so people who have the original mod on their save can get the altered tomes back. But you can use this on a new game as well.
