Changelogs

Want to hide some stuff and come back and retrieve it later? Create, search, retrieve and destroy multiple hidden caches all over the wilds of Skyrim. Storage is safe and will not despawn.

Featuring

  • Idiot proof interface.
  • Placing a stash is free.
  • Mark caches with branches, a rock, or place an invisible cache marker on an existing log, stump, rock crevice etc.
  • Caches deleted from area after you retrieve them.
  • Warning before deleting caches that aren't empty - this can be used to bury and dispose of unwanted objects.
  • Notification of how many items you've retrieved when you empty a cache.
  • Adds a new power called "Create Cache". If you're not in combat, cast it anywhere outside like a spell to create a cache where you are standing.

Cache Security
From 1.01 on, if you like, caches have a chance to be found and looted by a passerby. Every 12 hours, a cache with items in it will check if it was discovered. Empty caches will not be recognised as a cache by passerbys.

By default, the chance of a cache being spotted is roughly 50% after 1.5 years of in game time (~0.07% every 12 hours, actually 50% after 500 days). The player can configure, on a per-cache basis, how secure each cache is, from completely safe with no chance of discovery, right up to a 50% chance of discovery per day if, for example, they were lazy and just dropped one right beside a main road. If a cache is discovered, you might get lucky and find the person who spotted it was honest and will not loot it. However, they may tell other people about it who have no such qualms. Every person who discovers a cache makes it more likely that it will be spotted again. Each time it is discovered, there is a good chance the person who discovers it may loot all of its contents.

If you visit one of your caches that has been discovered but not looted, you will notice that it has been disturbed and be warned you should move your cache.

Faction Economy Integration (requires v1.01+)
If you are using the Faction Economy mod install the patch from the files page. This will mean that if a cache is robbed your missing stuff will start to appear being used by one of the factions in Skyrim. This will encourage you to be honest when rating how safe your cache is and add some risk to stashing things in the wilds, but more importantly means you may be able to get your stuff back!

How likely it is that a particular faction was the one that stole your stash depends on where your cache is - e.g. it's more likely to be Forsworn in The Reach, Orcs if you stash it near one of their strongholds, Dawnguard patrols if your cache was near Fort Dawnguard etc.

You will get a hint about which was the most likely faction that found your stash, however, that is no guarantee that that was the faction that actually found it.
If you want the mystery spoiled for you, the actual probabilities for which faction has taken your stuff is visible here - suggestions for more immersive distributions welcome in the comments.

Usage
The placed orientation of the stash isn't automatic, it's the same as the direction the player is looking when it's created. Working out the slope of the ground automatically is more work than I was willing to put into this simple problem solver, so look parallel to the ground when you create a stash and the stash mound will spawn flush with the ground. If you're not happy with the placement, you can always destroy it and place another.

I created this mod a few hours into my latest play through while I was trekking past Ivarstead to see the Greybeards - after clearing out the barrow there, I just couldn't carry enough loot to go on, but annoyingly there was nowhere to sell it off or stash all the sentimental trophies I'd acquired.

The solution was this simple, lightweight mod that adds some very useful functionality. Safely stash items anywhere in the wilds and know you can come back and get them the next time you are passing through the area without having to worry about the cell resetting before you swing back that way.
