About this mod

USSEP erroneously changes Redbelly Mine's ebony ore veins to iron ore veins; this patch undoes that. Also fixes an inconsistency with the "Truth Ore Consequences" quest (FreeformRiften17) not fixed by USSEP. ESL-flagged. USSEP not actually required.

Redbelly is supposed to be nothing but an iron mine. Been working it for years. Then right before the spiders had moved in, we found that chunk of ore. Never seen anything like it. I want to know what I'm dealing with before I start tearing it out of the ground.

Short version: USSEP erroneously changes Redbelly Mine's ebony ore veins to iron ore veins; this patch undoes that. Also fixes an inconsistency with the "Truth Ore Consequences" quest (FreeformRiften17) not fixed by USSEP.

Longer version: The village of Shor's Stone is built around Redbelly Mine, an iron mine filled with red mist. In conversations between the villagers, you can overhear that recently the iron ore has been drying up. Worse still, the mine recently became infested with giant spiders. According to the village blacksmith, Filnjar, the spiders appeared shortly after a strange type of ore was discovered. And, indeed, there are 3 ebony ore veins near the bottom of the mine; this ebony is clearly the unknown new ore.

At the end of the day, after you've cleared out the spiders and reopened the mine, it seems the bad luck of the miners of Shor's Stone has turned around. Now they've uncovered a source of highly valuable ebony ore. Lucky them!

So, here's the problem: For whatever reason, the Unofficial Patch team decided that Bethesda's placement of these veins is a "bug" and "fixed" said bug by replacing those ebony ore veins with iron ore veins. Well, that sucks. This change means Filnjar's report of uncovering an unknown new type of ore and the overheard conversation between the villagers about the iron ore in their mine drying up no longer make sense. Also, Shor's Stone loses its new source of revenue. Poor guys.

This bizarre decision on the part of the Unofficial Patch team was first brought to my attention by this r/skyrimmods thread from around a year ago, which I first saw a few days ago. Needless to say, I don't think the Unofficial Patch team will be correcting their erroneous changes. That's why I made this unofficial patch for the Unofficial Patch.

Additionally, this mod corrects an inconsistency in the "Truth Ore Consequences" quest (FreeformRiften17), in which Hafjorg sends you to Shor's Stone to collect an ore sample from Filnjar, who needs it identified. If you're paying attention, it should be obvious that this was meant to be a sample of ebony ore, but Bethesda made it a sample of quicksilver ore. So, I've changed this one sample of ore to use the model for ebony ore and changed its label to "Unusual Ore", reflecting that, regardless of whether the player can tell what it is, the miners and blacksmith can't.

Note: Although half the reason I made this was to correct an error introduced by the Unofficial Patch, you DON'T actually need the Unofficial Patch to use this mod. If you don't use USSEP but you do use this mod, the ebony ore veins in your game won't be any different — which is how it should be regardless — but you'll still get the "Truth Ore Consequences" quest (FreeformRiften17) consistency fix. Because my mod doesn't use the USSEP ESM as a master, just make sure my mod loads after USSEP. It probably will by default.

This mod only changes a few records and is ESL-flagged.
