I decided to add a sticky Post already for mentioning some stuff from the comments and give you already a small update information (I know quick after release but why not :)
But first quickly to say Big thank you so far for your positive feedback and constructive criticism! Also for the Endorsements that get this mod on Page 2 of trending mods!
I am a strong believer as long as everyone is respectful we have a nice place.
- it was pointed out that the voice-files are a bit too boomy and slightly to loud to fit in nicely (what could also come from the boomy voice). I messed it up a little bit (I think it comes from my edits). I hope and don't think it is too disturbing for now. I already talked to the voice actor and we will maybe even record completely fresh ones. But anyway I will give you updated Voice Files (will work as a simple overwrite update) - but no exact time frame. (Thanks here to SevVocal and ElSopa)
- Permission question to Arthmoor for Provincial Courier Service is out.
- Other features are still working in my brain, like pointed out also on the Description page but need more work and I don't want to give too much out for now.
Update 16.Nov.2020
- Seems we will record completly fresh and rework voice-lines - only a time thing! Also extracted original Voice-Files to compare as ElSopa suggested - thanks for this - when we are ready it will be a simple overwrite so no biggy for an update if anyone is worried about this
Update 18.11.2020
- LE Version is published - Assets are backported with Cathedral Assets Optimizer and ESP got backported with a SSEEdit Script. It is my first backported we tested it and it seems to work fine. I hope it runs at is should.
Update - Post 04.03.2021
Hello, everyone just wanted to let you know that the mod is not dead! I started working on new features shortly after release (Post-Office, an employee there, option to change delivery-type, Vander running around in the world doing his job and such things). But as life is there are other things, that distracted me or held me off from it. Also my mood to do mod-work is still not at the highest at the moment. No Compatibilty-Patches are planned for the near future (still no answer from arthmoor about provencial courier service, but a similiar feature is still planned).
When I finally get back into it I will probably again stream most of the work on my youtube channel, if you are interested in it :)
Update - Post 27.05.2021
So I started tinkering around again :) First project is implementing a Mailbox-System as alternative to the classic Delivery. Also implementing a MCM-Menu for this System and future stuff. If someone is interested I will stream this stuff partly on my youtube, starting probably tomorrow (28.05.2021) - Link on the Main-Page.
I strongly suggest not making the introduction so intrusive. I made the mistake of having this mod in my load order while testing other mods. Never again! Maybe I'll give this a try later on because it really is a great mod. However, having the player locked into a dialogue at the beginning of a game (for anyone who likes to establish a modlist -before- playing, rather than just adding them as they go) is even worse than just having a courier deliver a letter to you as some mods do. The only thing worse is a mod that shoves a message in your face, like the The Grand Bathhouse, which is otherwise a beautiful and stylish player home. Well actually there are mods that won't even let you play the game but I haven't encountered one myself.
Anyway, as a player who likes my mods to be unintrusive and immersive, I would at least add an option in the form of a FOMOD to not have Vander accost the player right away (because that's what it feels like) or at the very very least not forcegreet and lock the player into the dialogue interface. One possibility is to have Vander hand the player a letter like a normal courier, introducing Vander, and allowing the player to talk to Vander afterward. This would be really refreshing change from the "Nope, sorry, nothing" line of vanilla couriers.
This could all probably have been said better, but the point is that this is an awesome mod, and I can only wish that certain modding conventions were followed in order to make it more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
But great work, and I feel he actually fits into the world of Skyrim rather well!
So…you don’t like one of the key parts about the mod. Got it. The normal courier does the same thing, just not the sales pitch. He’s no regular courier, but you’d know that by watching the vids or CW’s series with him. Making him talk using normal courier lines like Vanilla would run the experience…entirely.
Yeah I completely agree with charlie When you are in the middle of building a mod list having the courier come to you every single time you start the game is quite annoying The easiest workaround is to disable him via a bat you can run before starting a new game, his FormID is: 00039F83
I don't hate the intro but like for example I come to riverwood and I would like to follow Aldof or the other(don't remember their names), I would like to follow and join their conversation instead of being stop each new playthrough the second I set foot in riverwood. Idk like adding of length of time before he comes or the next day or something. I love this new courier but not when i am forced to talk to him and miss event stuff. Is there a way to delay the intro or something??
It's as simple as disabling and enabling. I think sometimes we need to stop and ask, am I putting work onto the modder that really isn't that big of a deal? This free, passionate project that was only made because the modder wanted it to exist?
Yeah, you're right, i can just disable the mod then after the riverwood event intro i enable him. Thanks. I still like more this visual replacer than vanilla courier.
So does anyone know if this dude is going to be updated at all? I would really like to use him but I see he hasnt been updated in about 4-ish years. I know he probably still works and everything but I was just wondering if there are plans to update him.
I mean the main page literally says they mod is finished as far as the mod author is concerned. What exactly needs to be updated? Just because a mod is "older" doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it.
I adore this mod. I made a replacer for him using one of my own character presets and it's exciting to see him running toward me now! I also added the default sandboxing package so now when I go to see him at the provincial courier office, it's so fun to walk in and find him writing at his desk or having dinner, and being able to sit down with him and ask him to hold my packages or deliver my mail. Makes him and the whole courier aspect of the game feel so much more alive.
Yeah, this is a courier that I don't want to smack my fist in the face for daring to endanger my mail. He looks stylish and ready to run all over skyrim, unlike a certain potato face that we see after a base installation of the game running around unarmed in farmer clothing.
The courier doesn't show up. I saw him only once in Riverwood, and that's it. I'm level 24 now, and I KNOW that I missed a lot of letters. I have no other mods for couriers or anything replacing the scripts.
I use at your own pace as well as another mod that delay my quests. He devotedly appears anyway and deliver... with urgency, when I reach a point when quest with message is to start.
The only thing I would like to see is a bit cleared up voice sound, and maybe the possibility to interact with courier somewhere outside deliveries.
Love this beautiful enby-coded individual. So much more personality than vanilla courier.
Only suggestion I have is maybe delaying the first encounter? I've installed a bunch of mods for the purpose of delaying the start of certain quests to avoid a courier encounter, and yet Vander still forces you into an encounter at the start of your game regardless of whether they even have mail to deliver you. I also can't skip any of their dialogue.
