Skyrim Outfit System SE Revived
Overview

Skyrim Outfit System SE Revived
is a mod that allows you to replace the visual appearance of your armor with that of whichever other armor you prefer, while keeping the stats of your real equipped armor. This works on both your character and on any NPC. It's basically transmogrification for Skyrim, letting you wear that cool new armor you looted while keeping the look of your favorite pieces!

This is a resurrection of the mod that existed in Skyrim LE (by DavidJCobb) and outdated versions of Skyrim SE (by Aers).

Features

  • Change your armor's visual appearance to anything you want, regardless of what your equipped armor is!
  • The effect is visual only and shouldn't affect gameplay. (NOTE: See note about skill leveling bug below)
  • MCM menu lets you configure the mod easily.
  • Create a library of outfits to switch between at any time.
  • [IMPROVED] Quick-select spell lets you select between any number of your favorite outfits at any time.
  • [NEW] Location- and weather-based switching lets you automatically select outfits based on your location (i.e. in a town, dungeon, etc) and current weather conditions.
  • [NEW in v0.2.0] You can export and import the "OutfitSystemData.json" file to edit your outfits externally.
  • [NEW in v0.2.1] Per-outfit settings to allow your other equipped items to be shown with your outfit and to require that you actually have an armor equipped before the pieces of an outfit will show. This helps increase immersion and improves compatibility with other mods.
  • [NEW in v0.3.0] Support for Anniversary Edition!
  • [NEW in v0.4.0] Also override NPCs' appearances too! Now your companions can look the part too!
  • [NEW in v0.5.0] Advanced slot management allows you to choose how your outfit interacts with your armor.
  • [NEW in v0.6.0] Automatically switch to a different outfit during combat!

Updating/Downgrading

This mod stores data in your SKSE co-save and uses Semantic Versioning to indicate save-game compatibility.

Generally, any given version of this mod will always work with saves created with an older version of the mod. However, saves created with a newer version of the mod may not work with older versions of the mod. When this occurs, this is indicated by a change in the leading digit of the version number. You should not downgrade to before a "major" or "leading digit" version number of this mod and expect saves created with a newer version to work.

License

Development

This mod is being developed on GitLab and contributions are welcome!

Known Issues

  • RaceMenu hair colors for wigs and body tattoos might disappear when first loading into the game while having an outfit active. Switching your outfit should restore them.
  • If an NPC's AI package makes them change their equipped items, they may no longer wear their assigned outfit. You can enter the MCM menu and immediately exit it. This will force reapply the outfit.

Credits

This mod is an update of aers' Skyrim SE port of DavidJCobb's Skyrim LE mod. Most of the work was actually by those two, but the mod needed some updates to serve the community once again. While the original SSE port only worked on an outdated Skyrim SE runtime, this version has been made version independent using the Address Library.

Work by others that is included inside this mod:

  • DavidJCobb for doing the original reverse engineering and creating the mod for Skyrim LE
  • aers for creating the original port for Skyrim SE
  • CharmedBaryon for creating CommonLibSSE-NG, used internally by this mod

Also thanks to mwilsnd for advising on version independence.

How Location Based Switching Works

I tried to make the location-based automatic switching feature as intuitive and out-of-the-way as possible. The key thing to know is that if you don't set something, it won't affect you. But if you want details on how it works, read below.

The location-based switching features allows your outfit to be selected based on four location types (World, Town, City, and Dungeon) and three weather types (All, Rain, Snow).

For locations, World is the most general. Under World, you have Towns and Dungeons. Under Towns, you have the more specific case of Cities. For weather, All is the most general, then Rain and Snow.

The way this works is that the outfit that's assigned to the most specific location and weather will be the one selected. If there is no outfit assigned for the location and weather, then the next most specific one is selected.

For example, if you're in Solitude and it's raining, the following settings will be checked in order and the first one with an outfit assigned will be the one that's used: City (Rainy), City, Town (Rainy), Town, World (Rainy), World.

Hence, you don't have to assign every single option to make this feature work; just assign outfits at the level of granularity that you'd like.

Note that while an outfit has been activated via this feature, choosing an outfit via the quick select spell will automatically replace the assigned outfit.

Note that the weather detection is very much in alpha state. It only detects what's literally falling out of the sky at this moment and cannot detect the overall climate of the area you're in. If anyone knows of a better way, I'm all ears.
