Critical Hits Make Sense
Configurable Scaling

Critical hits in vanilla Skyrim are poorly implemented, dealing little damage because they don't scale with any damage modifiers. This mods lets critical hits scale appropriately, and is fully configurable.

Features

● Stat Scaling ●

  • Critical hit damage scales with One-Handed/Two-Handed/Archery level.
  • Critical hit damage scales with stat bonuses from enchantments and potions.
  • Fully configurable through MCM, default settings tailored for vanilla.

● Perk Scaling ●
  • Critical hit damage now scales appropriately with the Armsman, Barbarian and Overdraw perks.

● Additional Tweaking ●
  • MCM menu provides configurable critical hit damage multiplier, and flat bonuses for melee weapons and bows.

Shortcomings

  • Even with this mod, bonus damage from forging and enchantments does not contribute to critical damage. It's not possible to implement this in a lightweight manner without a DLL.
  • NPCs are unaffected by all but the perk scaling feature. However this can be easily resolved by adding a SPID config to distribute "CriticalHitsMakeSensePerk" to them.

Compatibility

Since this mod makes changes to a few vanilla perks, any perk overhauls should be loaded AFTER this mod.

Notes on Critical Hits

  • Critical hit damage is a weapon property, and for nearly all weapons it is equal to half the weapon damage, rounded down to the nearest whole number
    • Example: Ebony sword has 13 damage. 13/2 = 6.5, so critical damage is 6
  • Arrows/bolts do not have a critical damage stat, as such they are not taken into account for critical hits with bows. This makes bows have relatively weaker criticals compared to melee weapons.

Alternate Files

Version 1 of this mod has the same features as version 2, but lacks the MCM menu to tweak the numbers and is not ESL flagged. If you don't need/want the MCM, you can use one of the V1 files. There are 3 flavors which only differ in the multiplier they have for all critical damage:
  • The default version doubles all critical damage.
  • "Even More Damage" triples critical damage.
  • "Scaling Only" does not modify critical damage (most similar to the default settings of version 2)
