About this mod

Takes Shadows and adds those changes into ELFX into a combined internal ambience. More lights, effects, shadows, and a lot of work to make it happen. The goal is to not only combine all of ELFX + Shadows, but also redo and revamp cells that need work and increase the aesthetic and fantasy feel.

DISCLAIMER: This is WIP (work in progress) and early release version so people can see where progress is and also know that there is a mod with someone doing this.

Ambient Lighting Combined (ALC) takes the amazing work of Enhanced Lights and FX (ELFX) by anamorfus and marries it to the concept of Window Shadows by HHaleyy, now Shadows RT (managed by Dlizzio). The two mods cannot simply be merged or loaded together. Lights must be moved / removed / added in order to make them work properly. Ambient Lighting Combined takes both of those amazing mods and creates a new unique experience using ELFX as the base and adds Window Shadows techniques into it.

Day / Night cycles are much more pronounced in interiors. Lights near beds will be turned lower during evenings and fireplaces will shine brighter. More shadow casting masks are used creating additional windowed effects beyond the original Window Shadows and ELFX. ALC isn’t just combining the two, but taking the best of both and continuing those efforts.

With .6 this mod includes Window Shadows as part of the mod since it's a moving target and you do not have to download it separately, but please stop by the Shadows page to upvote. Wizkid's ELFX Fixes is part of ALC and will be updated over time as newer versions come out. ALC is compatible with ELFX SMIM and is recommended.

If you are using any parallax or mesh replacing mods, I strongly recommend you use Parallax for ELFX and make sure that mod overwrites everything - else you may be getting flickering. I have tested Skyrim 2020 and other texture / mesh replacing mods and they can often break ELFX meshes and result in flickering.

*The current patch version of Shadows is 6.0a at the time of posting and simply has the areas not worked on yet pulled out of it so you don't get flickering and more problems than there already are. Current release of Shadows is not supported, as this mod forked an older version of it. I'll take a look at what the mod is doing currently and can integrate different parts of it but it will not be aligning to with anytime soon due to it constantly changing.

Future Plans

With .6 release of ALC I am 60% of the way done. Each release put out will be that % of lighting combination completed and will release in .2 increments until 1.0. Going through block by block, in order, so if you want to know which cells have been completed just open up SSEEdit and look at the modified Shadows.esp to see the cells that have been done. Even if they have been done I'll go back and further improve them as I learn, standardize more, and improve everything.

Will eventually be made into a FOMOD installer to add options for overall cell lighting with patches for EFLX Enhancer, Hardcore, Shadows and others plus compatibility with popular mods. As of now this mod should work with ELFX Enhancer and 90% work with ELFX Hardcore options.

At version 1 the plugin name will change when they’re merged. The new plugin will become Ambient Lighting Combined and include meshes and patches. The current development allows for separation and version control until the release of 1.0 when a unification happens.

I will not and do not recommend making patches for other mods until after 1.0 when I have a firm foundation to stand on.
