About this mod

Wearing a hood shouldn't mean a character's hair disappears, right? This simple mod replaces the Hood_0.nif and Hood_1.nif files to add similar hair from certain versions of Seranaholic under her hood with adjustments to reduce clipping.

Requirements
Permissions and credits
For a character that wears a hood about 50% of the time outdoors, that one better have hair under the hood.  +Immersion

WHY ONLY SOME VERSIONS?

The hair mesh used is specific to the version. So, making HoodPlusHair for each Seranaholic version is a project of it's own with unique challenges such as shape and color matching. If you are using these versions of Seranaholic and you want her to have a vanilla-like hood with hair, then this mod is for you. If your Serana uses some other hair, the hair will change while the hood is equipped with this mod. Don't do that, silly. Check the downloads section to see if your version is supported.

At the moment, only default weight Seranaholic is supported for most if not all versions.

LOAD ORDER:

This mod now contains an ESL flagged ESP and must be allowed to overwrite in any file conflict. It must load after any Serana modifier. In Vortex or Loot, you can set HoodPlusHairForSerana.ESP to be in the late loaders group.

Use a mod manager like Vortex.

FORWARD COMPATIBILITY:

New minor versions of Seranaholic have come out since this mod was released. For the same major version, older minor versions should work just fine. Hood Plus Hair for Seranaholics 1.8.2 will work with Seranaholic 1.8.3 for example. If and when I post an update, it will match the latest major and minor version it was modeled for: 183.1.# for 1.8.3

PURPLE HAIR?!

You may be using the wrong version of Seranaholic or your Serana replacer uses a different hair texture or path. This mod aims to use the same texture file and path that it's version of Seranaholic does and depends on each being there. To remedy this, grab those files and recreate the same path if you really want to use this with your replacer. Alternatively, you could try installing the correct Seranaholic version, overwrite it's files with your Serana replacer, and overwrite that with this mod. Use a mod manager.

TO DO:

1.6.X, and previously 1.7.X, did not reliably hide the FaceGen (no-hood) hair. Some research is needed to discover why this continues to happen. All partitions use the correct slot under 60. Changing FaceGen to use only slots under 60 does not seem to fix it either. If you find out why, make a post about it in posts section. I'll credit you in the mod page. HPH for VHR Serana is probably plagued by the same issue. Same goes for that one.

Thanks to MidnightVoyager for leading me on the right trail to make sure all head parts have a record in this mod's ESP. WIP.

HOW IT WAS MADE:

I originally made Hood Plus Hair for Seranaholic 1.8.X (182.1.0) back in March 2018 and had left it installed in SSE until I started making updates for upload here.

I used Outfit Studio to resize the vanilla hood mesh so the hair did not stick out through it and opened up the front of the hood to show more of the hairline. I removed the long & rear parts from the hair mesh that are not visible from the front for a slight performance improvement and so it doesn't stick out below the hood. Kudos to the KS Hairdos team for all their hard work. I used nifscope to do quick edits/tweak and to close holes caused by move operations in Outfit Studio: XYZ copy-pasta.

This mod aims to faithfully duplicate all ESP records for Seranaholic in order to allow hair color matching. This is required for all versions including dark hair. v1.5 is the only exception so far. Vanilla Serana requires it too since the hair color in FaceGenData is not the same as Serana's NPC hair color. The NPC hair color is tinted/painted on any hair parts that are non-FaceGen.

Check the downloads section to see if your version is supported. I did not plan on making this for older versions of Seranaholic, but I am looking through them and making them as I figure out if they can be done. I may though probably won't make versions for other Serana replacers, but you are welcome to try. Some version such as 1.6.2 and replacers like Serana TTR use hair that may not fit well in a hood without serious work and talent. The hair mesh may need to be modified to do it, not just the hood.

If your version has hair that is too large, then it may take an act of the gods (KS Hairdos levels of talent) to modify the hair to fit realistically into a hood. If it's not realistic, it will look like garbage. I modified the hood to fit the hair, not the other way around. You and I maybe shouldn't ask them to do it, but if they'd like to I'm not against it. Send them donations before asking if you do!

CAN I USE THIS ON CONSOLES?

The only major console that allows these kinds of mods is Xbox One. Yes.
