About this mod

An ancient weapon of the Dwarves, long since forgotten. The Dwemer Longrifle is a powerful combination of alchemy and engineering that the Dwarves created to defend themselves from the brutality of Dragon domination. The technology has been all but lost, spoken of only in ancient tomes...

When I am silent, I have thunder hidden inside.

This mod is a modification of Grey-Wolf Jack's Craftable Guns mod. I wanted a gun mod that was more lore-friendly and felt more significantly powerful than some of the others I've seen. This rifle is INSANELY powerful, and can kill most dragons with one hit. To balance its immense power I made it extremely heavy, extremely slow, and extremely expensive to use. I want a gun that you would only use in a dire situation: sniping a very powerful dragon, killing a dragon priest that you can't get close enough to melee, etc. The weight and speed make it something you need to plan extensively for, not just a gun you can run around and slaughter everything with. Also, ammo will be extremely hard to come by and will be difficult and costly to craft. That's what I'm going for. An authentic experience of wielding a firearm, the only firearm, in a pre-Renaissance medieval-ish society.

This is a small quest that will begin after you have finished both the "Ancient Technology" quest added by Dawnguard, and the vanilla quest "Unfathomable Depths" (you must have the "Ancient Knowledge" perk.)  You will also need to have access to the Aetherium Forge, meaning you must at least partially complete the "Lost to the Ages" quest.  After the quest begins, you will receive a letter from Sorine that will lead you to the rifle's location. When you find the rifle, there is a limited amount of ammo available. You can also smith the rifle, but only after you have completed the "Ancient Technology" quest.  Any additional ammo must be crafted. The ammo can be made at the forge (under Dwarven) and gunpowder ("Dwemer Firedust") can be created at a cooking pot.  You should also be able to occasionally find powder or ammo in Dwemer ruins or alchemy shops, but they won't be cheap or easy to find. You'll have to make every shot count.

-DAWNGUARD IS REQUIRED

-The player will need access to the Aetherium Forge in order to find the rifle.

-The courier is actually triggered from you physically walking through the forge in Castle Dawnguard. This silently initiates the quest (if you've completed "Ancient Technology" and "Unfathomable Depths"), then a courier will deliver a letter the next time you visit a town. This seems a little silly if you add the mod after you've already completed the crossbow quests, I realize, but this is the most sensible place to do it.

-I set up the rifle so that at Level 1 with no perks, you can kill a mammoth or a giant with two shots. Any archery bonuses will increase the power from there. On my level 68 archery character I can bring down a Legendary Dragon in two shots.

-The projectile moves so fast that sometimes it looks like there isn't one, but there is.

CRAFTING REQUIREMENTS

Dwemer Firedust - Created in a Cooking Pot, requires "Dwarven Smithing" & "Ancient Technology"
Cartridges - Created at the Forge, requires "Dwarven Smithing" & "Ancient Technology"
Longrifle - Created at the Forge, requires "Dwarven Smithing" & "Ancient Technology"

NOTE FOR VAMPIRES

You don't NEED to join the Dawnguard to get the rifle.  If you go to Calcelmo's lab, you can steel the book and start the quest, or you can just pick the lock in the Aetherium Forge and break in.  However, you won't be able to craft the items without completing the "Ancient Technology" quest.

-When you die, the stock will fall to the ground but the barrel stays connected to your arm as you ragdoll. No idea why, but this is the only time that happens.

-Since the rifle was based off of an enhance Dwarven crossbow, it cannot be used by NPCs (just like the dwarven crossbows). This is a problem with vanilla Dawnguard as well.

-Different ammo types.

-Make usable by NPCs.
