Purchasable Maps
The first feature implemented was the ability to buy maps from two vendors. The first being a Tordean, a former courier using his knowledge of the land to make a good profit. And the second being Fethis Alor, who's taken to selling maps of Solstheim to the occasional wayward traveler. Both sell three types of maps per area, a map of basic structures, a map of notable landmarks, and a map of ruins.
However, these map won't have all of the locations in an area. So exploration is still required to find some of the more hidden area (Caves, Camps, ect.)

Findable Maps
Another way to discover locations is by finding maps made by others. So while you're cutting your way through a camp of bandits, you may find a map that leads to another camp. Same goes for Imperial Soldiers, Stormcloak soldiers, Forsworn, and even Vampires.
Patch for Atlas Map markers can be found in "Optional Files"
