About this mod

Changes Onean and friends to use the default skeleton, body meshes, and (optionally) body textures.

This is a bug-fix and body-override patch for Onean by Firestarfan12. This mod was created by request coming out of a private forum discussion with another user.

Onean, adorable as she is, has various issues, including armor/clothing compatibility problems, awkward English content, mesh errors, and other items. Firestarfan12 is working on a number of those.

This mod addresses 2 specific issues:
1) Problems caused by her custom skeleton
2) Changing her body as requested in the discussion mentioned

Custom skeletons in NPC mods are rarely a good idea:
1) A custom skeleton is completely unnecessary for most follower mods. It's a habit authors picked up years ago that has carried forward long past when it made sense. NPCs with unusual relative body proportions, that might benefit from a custom skeleton for movements, are rare. A custom skeleton is *not* necessary for building a short character like Onean. All characters in the following image use the default skeleton, and Onean is far from the shortest:

2) Custom skeletons are frequently not kept up to date with the standard skeleton, so they tend to be missing bug fixes and improvements
3) A custom skeleton frequently breaks armors and clothing; issues include
  • Body parts, especially breasts and belly, that 'melt' to the ground
  • Body or armor/clothing physics problems, including physics hairs implemented as armor, in particular
  • Breasts poking up through the shoulders when crouching
An example of the last problem looks like this:

SunJeong's SE port of GarudaB's BDO Dream Lace, and Coco's gorgeous 2B Wedding outfit, have the same problem with the custom skeleton.

To avoid these problems, this mod changes Onean (and her Oneana sidekick, and Altair) to use the default skeleton. If you want to fix her yourself without changing her body, or want to fix some other NPC mod that uses a custom skeleton that it doesn't need, simply load the ESP into SSEEDit and change her Race record's 'ANAM - Female Skeletal Model' sub-record to the default value "actors\Character\Character Assets Female\skeleton_female.nif".

No problems have been noted with the default skeleton, but not using the custom skeleton may cause trivial differences in body proportions. That's a decision you'll have to make: if you see differences, and don't like them, don't use this patch.

The second aspect of this mod is changing Onean to use the installed default body mesh and (optionally) textures. Depending on what's installed, using default textures may cause a texture mismatch at the head/body junction. A quick way to at least try to resolve that is:
  • Copy her facgeom and facetint files (00002FA9.NIF and .DDS) into the path where Racemenu can see them: SKSE\Plugins\Chargen
  • Run the game, open Racemenu, change gender and race if necessary, and import the head
  • Adjust skin tone and head colors as desired
  • Export the head
  • Copy only the DDS file back to the facetint path
For more significant texture mismatches, other approaches may be needed.

"Onean Textures" variant:

Onean comes with a number of UNP-based outfits built into the mod. As of her 1.1 version, many of these have issues. Most do not have weight slider support. Several have moderate to severe clipping, sometimes in...unfortunate...locations. Some footwear items are missing heel offset values (or haven't been converted, so SE ignores the info?), so they stick in the ground. At least one you can buy for her doesn't show up for you to ask her to wear it.

So, in general, you're better off using the SE version of that outfit for your body.

Unfortunately, not all of her included outfits have SE ports (ex.: Deathbell), and some with SE ports are not currently available in CBBE (ex.: Diano). So some users will want her built-in outfits to work alongside other UNP-based outfits. For those in that category, the second download removes her skeleton and points to the default body meshes, but points the body textures back to Onean's included textures. This avoids the hip-texture tears and misplaced nipples that would be present (and, in a couple of cases, highly and unpleasantly visible) if her included outfits were worn with CBBE-based body textures.

"Let's cut to the chase: which one do I use?"

If your default body is UNP-based, you want the "Onean Textures" download; Onean will work like the unpatched version with her included outfits, and with your other UNP-based outfits, but without problems caused by a custom skeleton.

If your default body is CBBE-based, and you have replacements for or otherwise don't expect to make heavy use of Onean's included outfits, you want the download with default textures. Her included outfits will show the usual texture-mismatch problems if the outfit exposes that part of the body. Your CBBE-based outfits will work the same as they do on any character wearing a CBBE-based body. None will have problems caused by her custom skeleton.

If your default body is CBBE-based, but you plan on using her included outfits a lot, you should try both and see which one produces the overall-least-objectionable set of texture mismatches.
