Just uploaded 0.3, which I consider 'finished'. Report any bugs and I'll do my best to fix them. Enjoy!

I dunno if the author is still around, but what would be really cool is if each death gave you a permanent -1 to health, magicka, and stamina.  One death won't ruin your character, but it really makes you think twice before doing something risky.  Is that possible to implement?

No matter how exciting everything looks in the description, the main thing is what the gameplay will be.

At the moment, with the mod, we have this gameplay: the more you die, the more you die. It's pointless and depressing.
In modern game design, there are only a few working mechanics: the usual saves like in Skyrim, the Dark Souls system, the Dead Is Dead Diablo system.

I assume that only minor changes to these three systems can work for a small part of gamers.

For example, using a death counter, you can try to make a lightweight Dead Is Dead system.

Classic "No Deaths": 1 save, died 1 time — a new game.
"No Deaths 3": 3 saves, died 3 times — a new game. No Deaths of 5, 10, etc.
At the same time, it is desirable to add settings for the counter to exclude some deaths. For example, from falling, from traps, from guards, etc. This is necessary because of the unpredictability of Skyrim.
Also, the death counter panel in the HUD will be useful for streamers.

I hope you understand that this is constructive criticism, and even with a suggestion for improvement. )

    Just trying this out.
Feels safer than most of the bleed out state death mods. Because compatibility remains with hug mods
Great plus! So far it works as advertised. I died 3 times. And was back at my last save - each time a penalty added.

I like this idea - I find it intriguing, but I can also see it causing a potential problem for my character. Unfortunately, PC's die in Skyrim. It happens. Sometimes a lot. I think it might be better with an opportunity to regain the stats lost (maybe after so long without death - a penalty level reverts?)

Or perhaps the penalty could be a loss of some skill levels (like the jail penalty of Oblivion) which can be painful, but can be regained. Sorry, just throwing ideas out there - not demanding any changes or anything.

I hear you. People's tolerance for death is going to vary according to their mods. Yeah people do 'Dead Is Dead' playthroughs, but I challenge anyone to complete the game with Requiem without dying lol! Sooner or later your gonna trigger a pressure plate and boom! I come from a background of playing Diablo2 Hardcore and feeling like nothing else ever really compared in gravity to the death of a level 80 character that you've spent literally days honing. Kind of sad really!

Have added version 0.2 which offers an amulet that removes all death penalties whilst applying some fairly mild non-combat penalties of its own. It's a work in progress and I aim to make it more immersive in future as mentioned in main description.

    This is absolutely fascinating.

Personally, I like the idea of some sort of additional penalty for character death, beyond of course the already obvious of losing the progress/items/experience since the last save.

Obviously, there are a lot of ways to do this, and also obviously, a lot of care would need to be taken to ensure this is not a source of extreme frustration for players.

For example; if a player feels they died due to something out of their control, they would not want to be penalized heavily, etc.
I for one think the current levels (-10 to stats per death) would cause me to not want to use it, or adjust the counters etc.

Personally, I think something like a temporary debuf to a stat, or skill gain (changing some of the skill or level XP global, etc.) might be more tolerable.
But then again, there are a large number of ways to do this.

Thanks for the mod, and I look forward to other developments or discussions about it.

Thanks for the interest! Indeed, sometimes the player does get killed in some freak WTF kind of moment, in which case simply rolling back the death counter in MCM seems acceptable. Always played with Requiem myself, so sooner or later death is inevitable!

A time based penalty is theoretically possible, however in the mod's current form, the penalty would be re-applied on each load, regardless of whether the player has previously worn down the timer. This is a limitation that I currently don't have a way around.

I'm going to upload a new file in coming days. Will be a flat -10 to health per level (forgoing the magicka and stamina penalties to avoid negative values) and a 5% reduction in skill advancement every five deaths. Think that's probably enough to make you not want to die, but not too severe. Possibly thinking of another more punishing version which is something along the lines of -1% armor rating each death as well. Key words here are SIMPLE and STABLE, I don't really know much about scripting but there's a lot can be done via hidden perks, so this mod should always remain uber compatible with everything just as long as Morogoth35's Death Counter functions properly (i.e it's not being confused by some kind of Death Alternative Mod) :-)

    Thats not a bad idea.
As long as the blame goes where it actually belongs.
As you can imagine, the actual blame will try to blame it on someone else.
