OVERVIEW

This mod is inspired by the game Eastshade where you play as an artist who can paint any scenery. You can create a painting from anything you can see in Skyrim and then place these paintings anywhere you like. Maybe you want to paint the majesty of the Eldergleam or create a portrait of your favorite companion that you can hang in your home, the choice is up to you since you can paint anything you like. You may even want to role play as a painter who roams Skyrim painting the various scenery you come across instead of battling enemies in dark dungeons like everyone else.

USAGE

When this mod is installed you will have a new "Paint" power that can be used to create a painting. To use this you will need to have a canvas in your inventory. A canvas can be created at a tanning rack using one piece of firewood and one piece of leather. The requirement to have a canvas in your inventory can be disabled in the MCM for people who don't care about immersion. When you use the "Paint" power, the new painting will appear before you where you can take it or destroy it if you don't like it. You can then carry it with you to be placed at another location to be put on display. If you have UIExtensions installed you can also rename the painting.

KNOWN LIMITATIONS

These are some things to keep in mind when using this mod:

  • In order to actually create a painting you need to run Skyrim in windowed mode. You can configure a borderless fullscreen windowed mode in the Skyrim Special Edition Launcher. It is a bit more difficult to capture the screen when DirectX has the fullscreen lock and I am not sure if I will be able to figure out how to get this to work.
  • If you play with multiple characters at the same time and use this with more than one of them, the paintings will be overwritten. Trying to work around this is a bit complicated as all the solutions I can think of would end up taking up a lot of disk space that would be a pain to cleanup. I may see about implementing a way to make this mod work across multiple characters if I get enough requests, but for the time being make sure only one of your characters is a painter so you don't accidentally destroy paintings for another one.
  • This mod is meant for people with a 16:9 aspect ratio. If you are playing Skyrim in 21:9 or 4:3 the paintings may look squeezed/stretched. I may look into figuring out how to crop images or something if there ends up being a lot of people with aspect ratios other than 16:9 wanting to use this mod.
  • Currently textures for paintings are stored in an uncompressed format. This shouldn't be a problem if you only have a handful of paintings in your player home, but if you have a low end computer and try to turn Dragononsreach into a large art gallery it may cause problems for you. I am going to look into adding an option to store paintings as compressed textures eventually.
  • There is a limit of 128 paintings that can be created. If you want to paint anything new after that in your current game you will have to destroy an existing painting. Hopefully nobody ends up actually reaching that limit, but if I get enough requests I may see about increasing that limit.

CREDITS

Apepi's Art Assets for the frame mesh which worked perfectly since it is close to a 16:9 ratio and uses vanilla textures to blend in well with the game.
