About this mod

Fixes weapon speeds in VR so physical strikes that hit will actually do damage.

Goddag,

I made this for Skyrim VR so that I could match the speed of my physical melee swing to that of the game. This will fix the problem of “missed hits” where you strike an enemy but it doesn’t do any damage because you swung the controller too fast.

NOTE: There are reports that this mod also affects the weapon speed of enemies. This could make your game much harder. Whether it bothers you seems to be on a case by case basis. I don't know if I can make this player only, so for now, I suggest trying the mod and then uninstalling it if it makes enemies too difficult.

==========
Description:
==========

This mod effectively removes the melee weapon speed rating built-in to the game so that you can hit your target in VR and do damage. Currently, each melee weapon has a speed limit that governs the time between successive swings.

Your first attack will always land, but your second or third attack might not if you physically swing your arm faster than the default speed rating of a weapon. It can be disconcerting to see your weapon connect to your target and not show impact animation, play a sound or do damage. It’s also the difference between life and death on harder levels.

To be clear, this mod increases the speed of all melee weapons to 1.5, which is ridiculously fast. My goal was to decouple the in-game melee weapon speed completely from your physical swing and this seemed the easiest method.

Q&A
==========

Q: Is VD’s VR Speed Fix the same as this mod?
A: That was the first version from 2018, which I shared with my friends as a test mod. It only changed a mace and hammer if I recall. Use this one as it changes every melee weapon in the game now.

Q: Does this affect power attacks!
A: No, power attacks are calculated by a weapons weight and not weapon speed.

Q: Does this affect Realistic Mining and Chopping for VR by Xiderpunk?
A: No, Xiderpunk deliberately set that mod to register a hit every 0.7 seconds. However, you can open up VR_MineOreScript.psc and change the speed from 0.7 seconds to 0.1. Then use Papyrus Compiler to make a new script, rezip the mod contents and drop it in your mod manager. I did this for a friend some time back and it’s worth the effort as I can’t live without Xiderpunk’s mod myself now.

Q: Does this affect Bound Weapons?
A: Yes it does.

Q: Does this affect Bows?
A: No! Bows are already uncoupled from Speed in VR. You can shoot as fast as you can physically draw your hand back. This is because an arrow is automatically placed in your hand after you fire the bow.

Q: Does this make the game easier now that successive attacks connect to the target?
A: It depends on your weapon and play style. If you turtle behind a shield and are conservative with your strikes, you may get an extra attack here and there. But if you’re wielding a two-hander then the extra attacks do more damage, so it could feel easier. Remember, VR isn’t the same as 2D. You’re not spamming a button, you’re physically swinging your arm. Not to mention, when you see a giant hammer in your hands, you might psychologically swing it slower as if it were actually a heavy object… or you might not. If you flail wildly, you’ll probably do more damage. Everyone plays differently, which is why I can only say “it depends”. In any event, a lot of my friends use this mod and about half told me they needed to increase the level of difficulty by one level. The other half kept playing at the same difficulty they always did and saw little difference.
