I have a less is more philosophy. I install this first thing every modlist, and let everything overwrite it. If I didn't want to replace the vanilla asset, its not important enough for normal map resources.

Hey should Blank Normal Maps for All Textures of SSE? be overwriting Base Coat? or should it be overwritten?

It should overwrite every mod. It is most likely base coat has some modified vanilla textures as this mod only affects vanilla normal maps.

If I'm understanding this right, this effectively removes normal maps from the game?

No, but it replaces them with tiny 4x4 pixel ones. Technically they are still there but won't show much effect in glossyness or shadowing.
Were really useful on my old potatoe so it gets an (late) endorsement.

So yeah, it essentially removes them without actually removing them

Working great for me. I have to hit up Solitude/Whiterun to see if it really does save me any fps/stuttering though haha tbh I couldn't even see the difference because I use so many texture mods, so there's nothing this mod can do for me except help. Only gripe is that I had to re-run dyndolod after installing, but that's np. Thanks man!

EDIT: I ended up hiding all of the mountain/stone/rock dds files since the small normal maps ended up making all of them look like smooth shiny tumbled stones lol But other than that, everything else still looks great.

    Here's what I mean: https://imgur.com/a/Ou1IpGw

In addition to this, turn off ambient occlusion shadows. It makes a big difference.

How to turn off the ambient occlusion shadows?

      Thanks.

Should I let this mod be overwritten, or should I make this mod overwrite my other texture mods?

I would do neither. Definitely use mod organizer for this mod.

Hey man, how did you pull this off? I'm looking to do something similar but with low alpha for my retro textures mod. Can't find much online to bulk replace files.

XNconvert and then run through ordenador. XNconvert is the best bulk editor I have found that works with dds

This mod is useful as a checklist for finding out what textures need replacing or at least that's how I use it for my high-end rig.

Is it usable with Cleaned Skyrim SE Textures?

+1 to this question, and does it do the same thing? Or better? Or worse?

Yes it is usable with Cleaned Skyrim SE textures because these are all loose files that override the archived files.

No, Cleaned Skyrim SE Textures does not turn normal maps into blank textures, it removes distortion from compression. It makes them look better. This mod makes normal maps completely blank, effectively removes them completely.

Ah, the emergency "I have too many mods on my VR skyrim" texture pack. Good stuff.
