What do the orphans of Skyrim really need? MORE TOYS! And I mean, like… a TON more toys.
That’s what this mod does: adds a large assortment of new toys and items for your adopted children to carry about and wear. There are toy dolls, a toy dragon, teddy bears, stuffed bunnies, musical instruments, fur coats and books. Why? Just for fun!
This is a port of the original mod by Anshela, with permission.
How it Works:
You'll need a copy of the book "Childcraft" in your inventory in order to craft the items. There's a copy in the Riverwood Trader, on the small shelf to the right as you come in. As long as this book is in your inventory, you will be able to create all of the items under the Misc category at the Tanning Rack.
Gift the items to your children and they will equip them! Toys and books are equipped as shields, and lutes and lyres are equipped on the back. There is also a book that can be worn on the back right hip. Your children will then carry the toys around with them. All items can be gifted to both boys and girls. (And if the girls have a normal Hearthfire doll in their inventory, they'll play with both the doll and whatever toy is equipped.)
Things of Note:
May not compatible with mods that let you give gifts/equip items for children (they modify the same gift lists)
Only give your child one item at a time. Giving more than one can mess up the equipping process.
(The rockinghorse is not included thats from a different mod)
In case you want to unequip a specific item from your child, items can be crafted for free at the Tanning Rack (as long as you still have the Childcraft book in your inventory) -- "Unequip Left Hand" "Unequip Instrument" and "Unequip Worn Book." If you give these items to your child as gifts, it will remove their equipped item. (They'll definitely give you the "Aww, stop teasing me!" dialogue though, because hey, you took away their toy!)
Unlike Hearthfire clothes, once you swap toys out from your child, that toy is gone -- I did this to keep from cluttering up their inventory. You'll have to craft a new toy if you want it back.
If your child enters an area that automatically removes their items -- like a bath in one of the houses, for example -- their toy may not re-equip when they come back out. Just get them a new one.
Crafting the items requires:
-- Linen Wrap and Tundra Cotton for the dolls and stuffed animals
-- Firewood for the instruments
-- Rolls of paper for the books
I tried to make them reasonably easy considering there are so many different types added.
Some clipping will be unavoidable with the meshes as the kids carry the items around. I tweaked them to get them as close as I can (using the vanilla children as models), but they will never be perfect.
The dolls are considered the same as the Hearthfire dolls, and as long as your daughter has an actual Hearthfire doll in her inventory, once you give her a Toymania doll she'll run off and play with both dolls.
The rest of the items are NOT flagged as dolls and won't trigger her running off to play -- however, if the Hearthfire doll is in your daughter's inventory, she'll still play with it on occasion. Which may lead to some odd looking animations. Like smacking herself in the face with a book. You have been warned.
Compatibility:
Anshela designed the mod specifically not to interfere with any of the adoption quests, however any mod that alters the gift lists for gifts given to children will be incompatible. Mods that add more adoptable children should work just fine provided they are using one of the vanilla child voices. It should also be compatible with children overhauls with those same conditions including RS Children, and the adorable Argonian girl from TKAA is in some of the screenshots!
Put On Your Coat!
She also put in the ability to give your kids the Skaal coat for when it's cold outside! There's a mod out there that does something similar, but she didn't want to mess with the kids' worn clothing at all -- so what this mod does is add a coat that's worn over the outfit they already have on. This means there will be some unavoidable clipping, so it's a trade-off as to whether that's worth it or not.
