About this mod

HD retexture of Apocrypha book walls and statues.

According to lore, Apocrypha is "an endless library, shelves stretching on in every direction, stacks on top of stacks."

Unfortunately, in-game, I feel that the walls of books are a pixelated mess. This release includes new HD textures for books and statues.

Apocrypha - The Library of Forbidden Knowledge

According to lore, Apocrypha is "an endless library, shelves stretching on in every direction, stacks on top of stacks."

Unfortunately, in-game, I feel that the walls of books are a pixelated mess. This release includes HD textures containing books along the walls and ceilings.

Books have been placed at right angles to create artificial shelving that keeps the feeling that books are stuffed into every nook and cranny (and also looks better when tiled on ceilings) but still gives a feeling of accessibility. I feel that this strikes the best balance according to my own tastes.

I've also played around with the normal maps, hopefully it looks better and has a little more depth now.

The textures themselves are based on "Buchregal mit Musikschriften" by Giuseppe Maria Crespi in a form that has been heavily edited by myself - the original image is in the public domain and there are no copyright issues with using the original image.

This mod was originally created back in 2013 to suit my own tastes, and has been ported to SSE on request.  I have no plans to work further on this mod or update the textures.

Updated normal map to improve depth created by, and with thanks to, IconicDeath.

Technical details:

HD retexture of Apocrypha book walls and statues available in 2048 resolution. Performance will depend on your graphics card, but as Apocrypha is internal cells, the performance hit will be less than most high resolution mods.

This mod has been ported from the original Oldrim mod created by myself back in 2013, converted to form 44 for compatibility and to esl (with compacted forms) to allow for use with large load orders.

Known issues:

- Textures may not be optimized for best performance, but I don't see any frame rate hit on my own system.  I have no plans to update this mod.
- As with all retextures, the visuals may not be to everyone's taste - the walls differ quite radically fro the original textures, while (I believe) still remaining lore-friendly.

Installation:
Textures provided as loose files as requested by the community.
The file is provided as esl as to not impact mod limits or load order.
Use a mod manager to install, or manually place the esl and texture files into your data directory.
