What is SAAL and what does it do / do differently from other similar mods?
SAAL combines usage based and level based attribute allocation into one comprehensive mechanic. With SAAL skills accumulate "attribute experience" which in turn determines how much Health, Magicka and Stamina you gain when leveling up. This coupled with its in-depth customization options greatly enhance player character progression and make SAAL compatible with a plethora of mods.

-Attribute experience system:
Skill usage yields attribute experience which proportionally increases Health, Magicka and Stamina when leveling up.
Progression will be tracked within a journal.

-Options for bonus Health, Magicka and Stamina regardless of skill usage

-Health and Stamina influence encumbrance

-Free-form class creation/supplement

-No continuously running scripts

-MCM Menu for easy configuration

-Profile system with custom and class presets: Requires JContainers SE
Save/load your custom configurations or use presets which emulate Skyrim's class system for NPCs.

-Optional patch for Dear Diary users Requires Dear Diary 3.0 +

How attribute experience works:

Spoiler:
Show

Each time you level up a skill it contributes experience points towards the progression of Health, Magicka and Stamina.
When you reach a new level, your available attribute points (default 10) will be allocated according to the percentage contribution of Health, Magicka and Stamina experience to total attribute experience.

Example:
You have accumulated a total of 200 experience, split into 60 Health, 60 Magicka and 80 Stamina

    200/60 = 30%
    200/80 = 40%

As a consequence, Health and Magicka receive 30%(3), while Stamina receives 40%(4) of available attribute points (10).

More information on SAAL's features and settings, as well as some ideas for configuration can be found under CUSTOMIZATION

First, make sure you have the latest version of SKSE and SkyUI 5.2 or higher installed.
JContainers SE is optional but will be required for the profile system.

Installation via mod manager is recommended as SAAL comes with its own FOMOD installer including a compatibility option for Dear Diary.
If you are using other Interface overhauls make sure that SAAL overwrites their levelupmenu.swf.

Compatibility
SAAL is compatible with almost anything.

Users of Experience should be aware that you won't gain any attributes if you haven't increased at least one skill since your last level up.
This is intended but can be circumvented by using SAAL's bonus attribute features.

Customizability is SAAL's biggest strength as it allows you to fine tune many aspects of leveling to your liking.

A brief rundown of adjustable MCM settings:

Spoiler:
Show
-Attribute Points per Level:

The total number of points that will be distributed through skill usage (default 10)

-Bonus Health/Magicka/Stamina per Level:

The amount of Health/Magicka/Stamina you gain on top of "Attribute Points per Level" (default 0)

-Carry Weight from Health/Stamina:

The percentage of your Health/Stamina that is converted into carrying capacity (default 0.3/0.5)

-Skill Level Modifier

Higher level skills yield more attribute exp. Formula: Exp * (1+ skill level / modifier) (default 25)

-Skill - Attribute sliders

The amount of attribute experience from skills for each attribute (default 100 total)

Adjusting settings outside the range allowed in the MCM can be done by manually editing "SAALCustomPreset.txt" found in "Data\SAAL Profiles".

Customization possibilities include:

Using the bonus attributes as a form of specializations, to uncouple attributes from skills, or to adjust attribute distribution of preset classes.

Adjusting how much experience each skill gives in total to make skills have more/less influence over your attributes.
This can be used as a form of a major and minor skills system and can be coupled with the skill level modifier setting to further the effect.

Example of a custom class with 10 attribute points gained per level, magic specialization and daggerfallesque skill system:

Attribute Points per Level = 8
Bonus Magicka = 2
Each Primary Skill - Attribute slider = 120 total
Each Major Skill - Attribute slider = 100 total
Each Minor Skill - Attribute slider = 80 total
Each Misc Skill -Attribute slider = 50 total

With the above settings we'd always receive at least 2 Magicka with the remaining 8 points being distributed by our skill usage.
Our Primary skills would have 2.4 times as high of an influence on our attributes than our Misc skills of the same level.

This is just one possible use of SAAL.
I encourage you to tinker around and find what works best for you and your character.
