After confirming permission with the original author, I opened it in SE's CK, went to double-check the keywords and ended up adding an Undead keyword to the Ash Spawn race (which I discovered even existed by accident and told Justinjah91 about), saved, attempted to clean in wryebash and xedit (first time doing such myself so not sure if I did that part right), used xedit to convert it into an ESL (again first time), and uploaded it to SSE Nexus. Note that I left the automaton flag on the race, which might have some influence on what spells affect it or something (I think I saw in some forums that it disables drain health, for example).
Personally I'm not entirely convinced of the "logic" that went into this dev oversight not being fixed in the USSEP, but whatev it's here so we can now fight the Ash Spawn with Turn Undead!
