Butterflies Land True corrects the direct landing zones, and adds a band-aid fix to the indirect landing zones. Butterflies Unchained corrects the indirect landing zones, and is a great companion mod for BLT. Used together, both mods solve the butterfly landing problems. If used together, use the no formlist version of BLT, or allow Butterflies Unchained to overwrite.
I’ve made the decision to open permissions on all of my current and future mods once they hit a completed state. As I consider Butterflies Land True as complete as I can make it, apart from any potential future updates, I’m opening up permissions today. Do whatever you like with this mod, so long as you keep it free to all users.
Wrye and his musings on cathedral vs parlor modding were what got me considering why I’m here, what my goals are, and why I set permissions in the first place. I’ve decided I want to help promote creativity through open modding where possible, instead of settings barriers to it. Wrye’s article can be found here for those interested…
When using with Unchained ... wouldn't it make sense to still use your formlist, rather than let Unchained overwrite?
I mean, if you think those indirect landing zones are jank, then why would I want to add them back in? What am I missing? Are Unchained's accuracy changes that good?
EDIT: Also. If I wanted to use a flora replacer for a specific plant -- say like with the Cathedral mountain flower or dragonstongue or whatever that dramatically alters the shape -- could I remove mountain flowers from the relevant formlist to prevent them from attempting to land there?
EDIT 2: Semi-unrelated but a great companion piece for a mod like this that its users may also like: Clams and Oysters Clipping Fix
It doesn't really matter. I checked the scripts for butterfly unchained and they don't use the formID directly. Maybe previous versions did.
If you're using USMP (and you probably should), you'll probably want to use the no formlist version because USMP includes butterflies unchained and uses it's own copies of the added formids.
Yeah, you COULD just overwrite them (1 or more times with usmp+butterflies+unchained), but why?
it's kind of funny. i came here looking for information as to why i see so many more butterflies...almost as if the spawn was increased. But, upon reflection, after finding nothing, i realized i saw more because i enjoyed watching them - having it be more immersive.
now, if someone could fix those stupid dead bunny rabbits from moving that be great. lol
Yeah, of all things Beth blatantly ignored with Skyrim, butterflies...who cares? It was never game breaking and something most people only noticed after several hundred hours of play time or some pointing it out.
I haven't actually tried to do that yet with any of my mods, but I'll will give it a go when I get some time. NeOniq offered me some instructions on how to do this with Wander, early in the year after I first published it. I haven't got around to trying it yet, but I will. It's all boils down to time to learn and do it.
On a side note, when I get some time to play again after completing Wander and some of these requests, that absurdly luxurious pickaxe of yours is the first thing I'm trying :) Happy to see you here!
I just finished and posted my wip playtest version for Wander 3.0, so before I get into the next phase of weather work I'll see if I can get this done for you all.
Hi again Mookeylama! While I haven't actually back-ported anything, from what I've learned you would need an installed copy of Oldrim, along with an old copy of the creation kit, to save the file as a form 43 after you removed any additions from BLT the SE adds that Oldrim does not have. BLT wouldn't have anything like this (stuff like volumetric lighting), unless some of the direct landing zones were additions in SE. There is a larger problem though. From what I understand there are some differences between SE and Oldrim, and you may have to manually go and check all of the 3,000+ direct landing zones to make sure they still match up. Not a fun job, but doable. From memory, it took 3-4 weeks to work on the direct landing zones for BLT. If your just verifying though and not having to move most of them, the process should go quicker. Again, this process is just how I understand it to work, there may be more involved.
I only play on SE, so regrettably this is more than I'm willing to do. I have however open permissions on BLT for anyone that wants the challenge of converting and posting BLT to Oldrim. I do hope someone does this for all of the non-SE users in the future.
so i just saved the esp in oldrim ck to make it 43 (which i don't even think was necessary since it just changes nilla refs) and then i copied over the changes to another esp i use for changes like this...and it's fantastic! seriously, it's amazing. never thought i'd see these buggers land true. i've seen many land now and every single one has been perfect. thank u! kudos to ya!
edit: aww was gonna donate but i see no buttons. u really deserve it. thanks again and i gave ya kudos
amazing mod here! the many years i've been playing the vast majority of bugs landing were off. been playing w/ this a long time now and musta seen at least couple hundred landings... have yet to see ANY bugs not land correctly! i just voted it lol
I would leave something like that up to the individual Modder to do. You should use the Creation Kit in this case, so you can visually Identify that location. I have however no recollection of what ID that spot was, so you'd have to sift through the 3,000+ spots to find it...
I find it just a bit hilarious that I've never really seen butterflies land on nothing in all the time I've played Skyrim, and yet suddenly just several minutes after exiting Skyrim after seeing this bug I immediately find a mod that addresses it. Haha.

Is it possible for you to upload the oldrim version for myself and others to use?
I would like that. :)
thanks.

Good luck!
I'll give it a shot.
