Overview

Weather depending on seasons is a great concept, realistic and immersive. However, seasons introduced in Cathedral Weathers didn’t feel diverse enough, so I decided to improve upon it. Originally several months were grouped together in a single season, and only a few weather types were included in dynamic probability handling — overcast rain, storm, and snow. Fog was handled by overcast rain probability, and clear and cloudy weathers had the same probability for the whole year. In my version all weather types depend on the season, and fog isn’t treated as rain any more. Every month has its own probabilities for weathers, to make them more diverse — now Rain’s Hand and Sun’s Height will live up to their names.

Certain regions will still have some weathers with static probability — for example, there’s always a chance to snow in snow-covered areas, but it’s going to snow a lot less in summer months than in winter.

Compatibility

This is an edit of Cathedral Weathers, so it won’t work with any other weather mod. However, I have provided a patch for True Storms, Wet and Cold’s ash weathers, and Minty’s Lightning. It requires all of those mods (obviously), and Improved Rain and Fog for Cathedral Weathers — the weathers wouldn’t look as good without it. An optional version without Wet and Cold is also provided. I edited weathers from those mods to stay true to Cathedral’s blended horizon, and to use global variables that control weather probabilities for seasons.

With Cathedral Weathers 2.0 Improved Rain and Fog now adds weathers from Obsidian instead of modifying Cathedral’s (except a few fixes) — originally this requires you to use the ‘sombre’ setting for Cathedral’s, but with my patch this is not needed, they have a chance to appear depending on the month, just like other weathers. If you do use the ‘sombre’ setting, they’ll be more frequent.

There’s a new mod — Storm Lightning — that replaces Minty’s Lightning. It doesn’t require a dedicated patch, so I just provided ones that don’t depend on the old version. With my patches (version 1.3 or newer) relevant weathers use the lightning frequency field, so you don’t need to use the compatibility mode in Storm Lightning’s MCM.

All files are ESL flagged (ESP-FE format), so they won’t contribute to the plugin limit of 254.

FAQ

Q: Will you make a patch for X?
A: Only if I use it. But you’re free to make any patches you want using my files.

Q: I see conflicts in xEdit, your patches are rubbish.
A: I had to make choices — if several mods edit one thing, I need to decide which version to go with. You may also notice that I didn’t pass forward TS’ thunder sounds for overcast rain. This is on purpose — not every rain weather should be a storm. Actual storm weathers have TS’ sounds included.

Q: It’s always bad weather, your mod is depressing.
A: It all depends on the month. But if you don’t like it, I’ve got you covered! Open the console and type in set GlobalSeasonClearMultiplier to #, where # is a number greater or equal 0. Default is 1, and the probability of clear weather is multiplied by it. For example, if you set it to 2, the clear weather will be twice as likely as the default probability for it during a certain month (15% → 30%, 10% → 20% etc.). You can set it to 0 if you never want clear weather, or 0.5, or whatever you like (just not less than 0).

Q: Is this script heavy?
A: No. It’s the same as in Cathedral Weathers — the season is set when you load the game or sleep, the script doesn’t run every second. All I did was add more states, there are now 12 instead of 4, but it won’t affect performance.
