Just given this a try to address a concern - rain at night renders white and is a) totally unimmersive - stand outside at night in the rain - it is invisible, not white and b) totally obscures all vision - as white on black will always dominate - any ideas?
Why don't you writing in the description that is for Cathedral Weathers? There is a texture "Cat_FXRaindrops.dds", which has nothing to do with vanilla files.
Short answer: The new version is supposed to work for Vanilla weathers, Obsidian, etc. as well but I messed up.
Long answer: 1) I seem to have tested, edited, and uploaded the wrong "fxraindrops.dds" file. So I gotta fix that. It won't take long. Simply a big mistake that I missed until your comment. So thanks for that. 2) "Cat_FXRaindrops.dds" was added for compatibility (with Cathedral 2.x & Azurite). It's noted in the changelog, but maybe not as clearly as it should be. I try to keep it short.
Are you using it with the current version (2.23b) of Cathedral Weathers? Because if you are, it's written right there in the description that this mod won't work on that version.
I added this mod, and then the game crashed every time I walked outside. Then I unchecked it in MO2, and my game stopped crashing. Not sure what's up here...
Okay, I'm curious. What weathers mod are y'all using this with if not Cathedral Weathers v1.x? I considered hiding this mod after Cathedral updated, but I still see downloads coming in so... what alternative are you combining with this?
They do two different things. Improved rain and fog makes it darker (and maybe foggier?) as appropriate during rain and snow storms. This mod just replaces the actual raindrop texture, which is hard to see in regular Cathedral Weathers. I use both mods together. They don't conflict.
Compared to Real Rain, Lucid Rain looks finer and lighter. Real Rain includes an ESP file too—which I would guess is to modify the rain velocity and things like that—whereas Lucid Rain is just a texture replacer.
For Cathedral Weathers and Seasons, Lucid Rain looks better, in my opinion.

Will this mod effect performance? I finally got my over encumbered game to be buttery smooth without stutter/60 FPS.
