About this mod

Removes the blurry red/blue vanilla constellation stars (and/or galaxies) by replacing them with an empty alpha channel. Doesn't touch regular stars and is fully compatible with all night sky mods - just let them overwrite this mod. Or overwrite other mods with this one to remove constellations/galaxies you don't like and keep the parts you like.

Why make this mod?

The vanilla stars don't look great, and most star replacer mods only replace the main 'skystars.dds' background texture. They don't replace the annoying low-res blue and red vanilla constellation star textures, 'skyrimconstellations01.dds' and 'skyrimconstellations02.dds' seen in the first uploaded image above. Personally, I find these really ugly and disruptive to an immersive gaming experience in 2019.

When mods do replace constellations, I often find they are too bright/fantasy-oriented for me. Galaxy textures (e.g. Milky Way effects) are much the same. You also can't turn off/adjust constellations or galaxies in ENB settings without also adjusting normal stars, because ENB settings group stars, constellations and galaxies into the same "Stars Intensity" setting.

My preferred solution is just to remove the constellation stars, which just don't look good and aren't necessary if you have a good star replacer mod already, e.g. Skyrim Textures Redone - Stars (which I love and am using in the included screenshots for the main stars - my mod doesn't do anything to those)!

What the mod does

  • No Constellations: Replaces the blurry red/blue vanilla constellation star textures with empty alpha channels, leaving only the vanilla (or modded) background stars and galaxies.

  • No Constellations or Galaxies: Replaces constellation stars and galaxies with empty alpha channels, leaving only the vanilla (or modded) background stars. This is in case you find galaxies annoying also (e.g. they can become too bright if you want to make your main stars brighter in ENB settings).

  • No Galaxies: Replaces just the vanilla galaxy texture with an empty alpha channel, leaving only regular (or modded) background and constellation stars (not recommended unless you're using a mod that includes constellation stars that you like the look of).

Requirements

Just the base game - it's just a simple texture replacer.

Installation

Install as normal with your chosen mod manager (MO2 recommended, especially if using this mod to overwrite parts of other constellation/galaxy replacer mods. Also in any case, just learn to use MO2 - it's genuinely great)!

Compatibility

This mod doesn't touch the main (background) stars texture 'skystars.dds' which is the target of most star replacers - it only removes constellation stars and/or galaxies. I'm using Skyrim Textures Redone - Stars as my main star replacer mod, shown in all screenshots, and my mod doesn't interfere with those in any way (I love them)!

If you're happy with the constellation stars AND galaxies you have from other mods, you don't need this mod.

If you like the main (background) stars from another mod but not their constellations and/or galaxies, overwrite those mods with one of mine so you can remove those specific parts and enjoy only the parts you like. The background stars will remain the same, but the constellations/galaxies will be removed.
