This mod is great! I had to enter the console command you gave us, but that then worked instantly.

Tip for console use: With the mods, More Informative Console and Copy and Paste in Console, you can paste that code into the console using control-End (the default).

I do wish there was a way to be able to borrow Meeko back occasionally. I also wish there was a way to give Lod and other NPCs other dogs, but from what has been said here, that sounds difficult.

Thanks for yet another fantastic mod! Endorsed!

Edit: I just confirmed that the nice mod Improved Meeko SE keeps Meeko "essential" (even the PC can't kill him), even after you give Meeko to Lod. Cool!

Edit 2: It turns out that when I went to give Meeko to Lod, NFF released the follower in the number 1 slot instead of Meeko. I suggest making a save right before you do the hand off. Before the beginning the dialogue, I ended up going into NFF's MCM > Slots and History > Sorting: and I put Meeko in the "Game Slot". Then do the dialogue. That made it work. That and the console: set PlayerKnowsLodWantsADog to 1

      THIS (Especially the NFF part).

Needs to be pinned or added in the description.

    Hello,
I have a problem with this mod. When I try to give Meeko to Lod, another follower leaves my service and Meeko is still one of my followers (I currently have five with Meeko). I use Nether's Follower Framework and obviously, the dialogue with Lod disappears and I can't start again.
I have also Bring Meeko to Lod - Missing Follower Dialogue Patch, Delayed Quest Starts - A Daedra's Best Friend and Delayed Quest Starts - A Daedra's Best Friend & Bring Meeko To Lod Patch.

I don't use NFF, but you could try the following: Try dismissing the other followers first. Then hand over Meeko, followed by re-recruiting the dismissed followers.

Well, I've split off all my followers except Meeko to see if that makes a difference. The dialogue goes as planned: Lod accepts Meeko, but
Meeko remains my follower. It doesn't break the game, but as my mod list stands (2255 esp, esm, esl or espfe), I can't give Meeko to Lod.

Try dismissing Meeko after giving him to Lod. Does he stay with Lod?

No, he's leaving and going back to his master's cabin, I suppose. There must be some incompatibility with NFF, but it doesn't break the game.

      That's unfortunate. I'm sorry.

I just had the same issue. I also am using NFF. Once you give Meeko to Lod, you lose all follower functionality for 600 septims, and you are stuck with him permanently as a follower. The best solution that I could come up with is use My Home Is Your Home and set Meeko's home at the Falkreath Blacksmith and dismiss him. He will hang around the Blacksmith with Lod.

I'll add NFF to the list of incompatible mods.

This mod is great! I was wondering if you could patch/fix the wolf in White River Watch to be an actual follower. I think its a CRF or USSEP addition. But the dialogue option to allow it to follow doesn't work and making it peaceful causes it to despawn after a while.

Any chance for it to work with generic "stray dogs"  you can find in random encounters?

I could technically do this, as I did with the Old Orc. However, doing so will cause the encounter to only be able to happen once and won't be repeatable anymore. I'm not sure if that pay off is worth it.

i see,  dont know, still think it might be worth it, not much use for the stray dogs anyway, and its always a pity to ditch them, as you cant even get them back  or leave them somewhere without mods.

i asked particularly cause in my last play through i found a stray very close to the moment i passed falkreath and started Daedras best friend, it would have been played very well with that functionality

I might make it an optional file.

I was going to make this same request, because I want to keep Meeko, but I don't want Lod to not have a friend. As an alternative, if it can't work with the generic stray dogs, could you make another dog for this to apply to? Maybe have it spawn outside of Haemar's Shame after the quest with Barbas concludes?

      Thanks for the great work.

I could perhaps make it work with the dog you buy at the Markarth stables, Vigilance?

Thank you. This is my favorite mod. I have spent years avoiding Meeko's shack because it's so depressing that you can't adopt a dog in Skyrim and have them stay at your home, they eventually leave and return to whatever awful place you found them. And dragging them along through quests is a different kind of horrible. At least we can save one dog now.

Would it be possible to add a dialogue option to Lod after you've started A Daedra's Best Friend—something simple along the lines of, "I'll keep an eye out for other dogs in my travels."—that would do the set PlayerKnowsLodWantsADog=1 automatically?

Cool, cool.  This mod does such a nice job of tying off two rather glaring loose ends from Vanilla in a narratively satisfying way, and I think having a gameplay-based way to avoid having to troubleshoot with the console would be a really nice way to smooth down the rough edges.

:) I've had this Mod in my Load Order for a bit and just completed the quest "A Daedra's best Friend" (I wanted to get Barbas back and finished before dropping off Meeko with Lod) But now it seems this quest is missing from my Misc. list. Was it intended to start the Beth. quest, go find Meeko, get him to follow. then drop off Meeko and finish the Bethesda quest? Can I reset the Bethesda quest to start again to Bring Meeko to Lod or simply use the console to transfer Meeko? I'd rather Not reset the Main quest, other events have happened since and that seems like alot more running around with quests partially completed waiting.

You should be able to get Meeko and bring him to Lod at this point.

:) I  just did this a few hours ago, it worked perfect. Now Meeko has a good home, Lod has a *Loyal, friend and I can ride off knowing in all the Grey Area stories from the Elder Scroll lore, atleast I've done one thing that was 100% good.

For the NFF incompatibility, why not just include a SPID text file in the download that will give Meeko the NFF ignore token like this mod does? It would be compatible with everything and solve the problem. If anyone wants to do that manually just install SPID and then create a file called something like "nwsNFF_ignore_meeko_DISTR.ini" and put the following line in it:

    Item = nwsIgnoreToken|Meeko|dunPOITundraMarshDog

Another option is to turn on "Confirm Import/Export" in NFF's MCM and say no when prompted to import Meeko.

Thank you. I was having sleepness nights, leaving Meeko alone waiting for the return of his [deceased] owner. He's happy and safe now. Thank you again.
