    About uninstallation of mods in general Information baked into saves
     
    Proper uninstallation is a lie, removing a mod without consequence is a lie.
     
    Some mod updates may not require a new save 90% of the rest of they will. 100% of the time is suggested.
     
    Some plugins will save you from a lot of crashes, that is good. Some others will delete some data from your save that is also fine. But disinstalling a mod mid-save with skyrim will ALWAYS means that the save is corrupted.
     
    We Mod Author can only create content by touching as less as original game data as possibile, and in the update process create content and modifying it in the smartest way possible to avoid to remove data.

    FAQs

    How i activate the mod?
    The mod activates itself at the start of the game.

    How i pick up a book?
    By default, activate to pick up and activate immediately followed by grab (hold E on pc) to read and other features like learn directly a spell book etc. (See the most recent changelog)

    How do i access to all the options (Skse version)?
    MCM menu.

    I've picked up a book, and a quest was supposed to start, why it doesn't?

    Load a save and read it. Or Just read it in the inventory. Or drop the book and read it. You get the picture.
    (For the record, this is not a mod issue. It's just how whoever decided how the quest would start.)

    Love the mod, it's great! One thing that is concerning is the LOOT message that pops up:

    "This plugin contains records that have FormIDs outside the valid range for an ESL plugin. Using this plugin will cause irreversible damage to your game saves."

    Might this be something to look into?

    It works fine, but after installing the mod, I can only pick up books, and cannot read without picking up.

    Do I need to exit the game and turn it off in mod manager each time?

    Encountered the Speech gain bug that's already reported in the Bugs section, so downgraded back to a previous version. No big deal, though.
    The bug is more funny than harmful, too.
    "Ah, by repeatedly putting on and taking off these ragged clothes I can become a master of speechcraft!" :D

    Anyway, thanks for the excellent mod. Always in my load order, as I hate having to read books, especially skill books, before I can pick them up. I love reading, including in video games (Skyrim has some genuinely great books, too), but I want to be able to do it when I choose to.

    Cannot recommend, tried mod on a completly new game, specifically setup with this.


    • Picking up certain quest related books and reading them afterwards did not advance quests properly, for example Alva's Journal in Morthal. The methods recommended by the author (dropping, reloading and so on) did not work. This was my reason for uninstalling the mod and posting here.
    • The animation for opening books showed graphical artifacts after installing this mod. Annoying, but can be ignored.
    • "Take" prompt does not switch to "Steal", when hovering over owned books, thus it's impossible to distinguish between free and stolen books beforehand. This didn't bother me too much, but could lead to unwanted bounties for players who don't know what's free and what isn't by heart.

      First of all, thank you for your endorsement.

      - This mod has nothing to do on how the mod starts by reading a book. You stated in this comment that you tried the methods i recommended, did you read also the rest? This mod doesn't act on scripts of the books but mostly gives you the choice of reading the book first like in vanilla, so what are we talking about? The problem of a quest starting or not, is a common issue in Skyrim that can be attributed to thousands of other problems with your save, a post like this, not giving a proper background on your issue is confusing and honestly sounds like whining.

      - This mod does not cover animations in any way. Again, another indicator you are having issues somewhere else.
      - This mod doesn't change prompt anymore as of Ver. 3.0 the reason of this are many:
      The event required to doing so is very demanding, engine wise, also creates potentials dump stacks in the script log. It is best to leave the UI modifications to specific mods, as i wrote in the changelog (who has the time to read the changelog right). Also reduces the needs of tons of eventual patches.
      If you are worried about stealing a book, you can remove the crime check in the MCM, we are not talking about gold ingots. And still you can use the old fashion way, not talking about the fact that the problem about thieves is only for those who get caught ;)

      You are entitled of your opinion but before share it you should properly check out the facts.

    Hi Thanks for your mod. :)

    In the file download section there are two files for SKSE users to choose from. An esp and an esp flagged esl.
    Which one should I choose? I couldn't find any hint in the description, file or post section.
    Well, I've DL'd the first one (the esp), but it would be nice to have some guidance on that.

      Is not specified because in the modding scene is kinda common knowledge, but i understand for someone that download for the first time can be confusing.

      It is very simple, .esp is the "older" version of the file that occupies a slot in the mod list, which has a cap. 
      . Esp flagged as .esl doesn't so you can go over the cap limit on how many mods you can install.

      Ok, Thanks for the answer.

      But in this case, why put the esp first, and why put it at all, since the flagged esl is the best, with seemingly no drawbacks?
      I'm sure there's a reason, I'm just curious.

      In the end is a matter of freedom of choice, and in the specific case of an .esp to be able to edit the mod directly, with bigger data mods .esp is the only way.

    How does this mod work while using a controller? I'm using an Xbox one controller, and whenever I press A to activate a book, it automatically picks up the book. I've tried tapping A and holding A, I've tried first and third person views, and every time it just picks up the book without the option to read first.

    Very cool mod concept, I'm not sure why you decided to attach a change to the crime mechanics though? It doesn't seem like it should be a crime to read a book without stealing it to me, I'd love if you made that optional like the guy below.

      You don't commit a crime if you read the book.

    I've tried all 3 versions. In my MCM I only had an option to toggle for weightless books. Is there a way I can get rid of the Crime system but still have the glow? I like the glow power but if I have to pick them up and there is guards around it kind of sucks.

      Sweet, that'd be awesome. I'm not sure if its working correctly for me. I'm currently using the .esl version when I hold E it picks it up so I can drag it around, if I tap E it picks up the book. There is no read option. I've tried 1st/3rd person. I also didnt see an option the MCM to inverse those. It just sucks accidentally picking up a book and getting a felony. 

      I'd like something to quickly read books without having to bring up the book interface.

    Always did love this mod and I still do. I will admit to sometimes wishing I could control whether to read or pick up with the shift key (Hold down to read) in the manner of reading the notes on The Notice Board without removing them.
