Be EXTREMELY careful installing the "Engine Fix" this mod says is required to get the sound settings to save.

It completely destroyed my mod load and hundreds of hours with of game play.

I've been using this fix and it works like a charm, finally constant thunderstorms are not a thing anymore in CoT. But i've been getting CTDs related to this mod, anyone getting the same problem?

The crashlog includes this line multiple times :

    [   0]    TESWeather(FormId: 01044838, File: `CoT-BugFixesSE.esp <- ClimatesOfTamriel.esm`)

      Thanks for reporting.

From what I can see, the only thing my mod changes is the transition time (from 255 to 125) between weathers for FormID 01044838. 125 is the default value for all weathers included in vanilla, so I can't see that being a problem.

I would try the usual things:

Check load order: make sure ClimatesOfTamriel.esm is loaded before CoT-BugFixesSE.esp
      Reinstall both mods

      ...and see how you go.

Thank you for the reply. For now i'm trying your other mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/12205) as a substitute. I'll report back once i manage to get another crash log with that line in the Possible Relevant Objects or getting multiple crash logs without it. If i still get crashes with the alternative sounds, i'll try reinstalling both. I'm leaving my load order to LOOT, and yes LOOT already loads ClimatesOfTamriel.esm before CoT-BugFixesSE.esp.

So i've tested for a few hours today, and looks like changing from this mod to Alternative Sounds for Climates of Tamriel worked (maybe just for the moment). I did not crash when i'm outside at all, and all my crashes did not include TESWeather(FormId: 01044838, File: `CoT-BugFixesSE.esp <- ClimatesOfTamriel.esm`) anymore. I also got help from another thread, and was told to try the console command fw 01044838 1 to force the weather into thunderstorm, and after trying i didn't get CTDs.

I'll edit this comment with further test results when i've produced more crash logs.

EDIT : I finally crashed with something related to CoT again, but this time the crashlog didn't include the ESP of Alternative Sounds that i'm using, so i'm guessing it's purely caused by CoT itself. It was raining, and in this rain i crashed a lot of times, when changing cells. I was in Dragonsreach, and when i'm entering / exiting i sometimes crash, and i moved to Hillgrund's Tomb, cleared the dungeon, and when i was about to exit, i crashed again. This consistently happened, so i figured it must be the current particular weather that is causing it, so i used "fw 81a" to clear the weather, and exited Hillgrund's Tomb. It worked, and i managed to exit.

I've tried reproducing the crash by forcing that particular weather ID and running in and out of Dragonsreach a few times, as well as exiting / entering Hilgrund's Tomb and Riverwood for good measure. I can't seem to reproduce it.

That form ID is unique to CoT, so we can be sure it is something that utilizes that data in some way, and since no one else has reported it, it is more than likely unique to your particular configuration, or your save file.

The game usually crashes when it tries to reference a null object.

Have you removed / added any mods mid-playthrough?
Does it only crash when moving between interior / exterior cells? Or is it completely random?

I've had the same crash with formId 01044837 and others, but I just never bothered to report it until now. It always occurs when exiting an interior cell to an exterior cell. But it occurs with only COT installed, so I don't think it's at all related to this mod.

If you think it is native to CoT, I'll have a look into it. I can now see that the crash log would obviously report my plugin if it was last in the load order, as it is the last to modify that form.

This is good, if it is always on an interior -> exterior cell transition, and it is the form described in the original post, it narrows things down a lot for me.

Is there any chance of you sending me your plugin list if you are comfortable with doing so?

      Hey there :)

I also got a similar issue as @bardathe111 regarding the 01044837 FormId yesterday. Since it seems to crash randomly, it's hard to reproduce the crash. But the last one happened after I transitioned from an exterior to an interior cell, from 'Riverwood' to 'Riverwood Trader' to be specific.

The log states the following possible relevant objects:

      [   0]    TESWeather(FormId: 01044837, File: `CoT-BugFixesSE.esp <- ClimatesOfTamriel.esm`)
      [  35]    TESNPC(Name: `Camilla Valerius`, FormId: 0001347B, File: `Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch.esp <- Skyrim.esm`)
      [  35]    Character(FormId: 00013488, File: `Skyrim.esm`, BaseForm: TESNPC(Name: `Camilla Valerius`, FormId: 0001347B, File: `Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch.esp <- Skyrim.esm`))

I also found some crash logs from a playthrough from 2020/2021 with a similarly modded version. Most of the time USSEP and CoT (oftentimes stating the same FormId 01044837) are listed as possible relevant objects.

I think it might be a specific weather condition (maybe in combination with the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch, since both mods are listed in the crash logs in most cases) but I'm going to play Skyrim in the next few days. So if a new crash happens and CoT is potentially involved in this, I'll post an update, if that helps :)

I read the description, but I'm still not sure if this fixes the issue where weather changes on a dime or not. If it's just a vanilla bug, is there a way to fix that?

No, it doesn't fix that. It is an engine level issue. Nobody seems to have figured out how to resolve it yet. I've had a surface level look into it, and it seems to be a bunch of complicated overlapping systems that determine the weather when the player changes cells. It would require figuring out how all of those systems interact to determine the current weather, followed by engineering a solution in SKSE. After a few hours of work, I chucked it in the too hard basket - too much work for little gain unfortunately.

Climates of Tamriel is probably the best weather mod but without this fix its unbearable to play. So a big thank you for this one!

Started a new game and upon entering the Helgen keep, I notice there is a loop sound with the same thunder. The sound loops every 30 seconds or so.

Its seems that this fix is incompatible with CoT(Without darkening) + Darker Nights mod :(. Darker Nights seem to take no effect.

**EDIT** Nevermind it seems that Vortex puts Darker Nights between CoT and this Bugfix. Put Darker Nights after CoT and Bugfix and works like a charm! Thank you, this mod prevented me from going all Sheogorath :D!
