Sorry, but if you report the dark face bug, I will remove the report. You need to read below how to solve this issue.
I do have a life and a family outside of modding. Thus, I am not your nanny. So, pull-up your big boy/girl pants and solve the problem yourself.
If the the mod doesn't make your computer implode or explode, I do not want to hear about it.

Introduction:

Serana is a follower most people enjoy having along on their adventures, myself included. There is just one small problem: she sucks, especially for a player who is sneaky.

Thus, my journey began.

Before releasing Serana from her long slumber, I began looking through various mods for one that would remove her annoying conjuration and also improve her stats. By the end of my search I was disappointed. While there were mods that altered Serana —on both Oldrim and Skyrim S.E.— they just were just “Meh.” Some went way too far left field, others did not do enough, and a few were just a mess.

Putting some time aside, I decided to modify Serana myself. Upon opening her character card, I was flabbergasted! There was very little there and what was there made no sense. Basically, Serana was a sodding mess. Bethesda put no thought or time into making her out to be what she should be.

But I am no fool and fully understand that not everyone will like these changes. That is fine. We all have our own opinions. However, for those of you who are seeking a better Serana, I hope this mod will be the solution you are looking for.

Compatibility:

READ HERE IF YOU WANT TO KNOW ANY CONFLICTS!!!!!

I have a very large mod list. Even a mod that alters Serana'a face textures and I have zero issues.

We all have a different mod list for our game. So, if you come to me and ask if this mod is compatible with this mod, I may not have the answer cause I have no idea.

Someone asked if this mod was compatible with a perk overhaul mod. My apologies for not answering cause I have no idea. Sometimes these mods work fine together other times they do not.

Best advice I can give is: use common sense and/or back-up your save and try it out.

Installation:

Before we get to how to install, I need to explain about the necromancy. So its even more important to keep reading and not skip ahead.

As I said above, Serana's necromancy is indeed 99% removed. The one percent is all on Bethesda.

For those of you who do not know, Bethesda is working off a game engine that is 20 years old. Sure, they upgraded the software, but age old bugs still haunt us players from one Bethesda game to the next.

This cause odd things to happen in game and we are often left saying, "WTF?" Case-in-point— Download a mod that changes an NPC's outfit and then all of sudden your wood textures are doing the disco strobe. Or you remove something within the game world and lo and behold months later it magically reappears for no reason.

This brings us back to Serana's necromancy. While the necromancy has been properly and completely eradicated, I cannot do anything about Bethesda's shoddy scripting, bugs and glitches. I'll run around with Serana for a couple of days with no necromancy. Then like a bad rash, it just magically reappears. Thanks Bethesda! You are the "gift" that keeps on giving.

But do not worry, there is a way to remove that 1% chance
if so happens to crop up.

Furthermore, this mod can be installed and uninstalled at anytime.

ATTENTION!!!

It has been made known to me that this is not working for some players and may cause a double of Serena.
Generally, these problems occur because the MOD was installed BEFORE you accepted Serena as your companion.

DO NOT install this MOD until she is 100% with you.

I've installed this MOD AFTER we left the Dawnguard Castle. And I can tell you it is working 100% fine on my husband's computer and mine.

IF its still not working correctly for you, then you have another MOD that is conflicting with it and/or was not downloaded/installed properly.

Mod Manager Install -
Download and activate.

Manual - Download, Unzip, locate your main S.S.E. folder drag and drop the unzipped file into your Data folder.

Then you'll want to head over here.

Download BAT Serana Spell Cleaning. Follow the super easy instructions.

Once in game. Hit ~ and click on Serana. Type in the code to run the above BAT file. You should see a list of what was and was not removed from her. Hit exit. Then do a happy dance.

You do not need the BAT file in order to use Improved Serana. Its a simple way to have something on hand if Serana happens to magically get a necromancy spell back.

Q and A:

Will you port this to...?

No. Sorry. If someone wants to port this to Oldrim, I am fine with it as long as credit is given to me. As for Xbox etc. no.

Can you add...?

No. A lot of time and work went into this. I did my best keeping Serana as balanced as possible. I may and I do mean MAY at some point configure Serana for those who want more Conjuration, but don't hold your breath. Furthermore, if you really want to tweak Serana for your own personal use go right ahead.

I found a bug. Fix it!

First of all be 100% certain this so-called bug is coming from this mod. Second, try to solve the issue yourself. After all that, report the problem and please be as descriptive as possible. I am not exactly in the mood to play
"Wheel of Translation."

Did you change Serana's clothes? Face? Hair?

No. And nor did I change any dialogue. This is simply an overhaul to her character card - nothing else. So, if you want to use this mod, along with another that puts Serana in a bikini and changes her face to look like Liam Neeson, go right ahead.

Lime, why was the Comment section removed?

First and foremost, let me be clear about something, I have no problem with those who dislike any of my work. It allows each one of us to have our own individuality. Thus, if you come to the comments section and leave a reply how you do not like it for “X” reason -- in a civil manner -- I will treat you with the same respect.

I will not tolerate comments that are vile and/or self-promoting their own mod -- EVER.

My comments section is not a high school and/or your own personal billboard. I may open it again but right now I have no tolerance for such behavior. Sorry to those who were civil.

You do realize that changing the character card can alter the NPC's face?

I DO have knowledge of the Creation Kit, and know that while it is a powerful tool it is also prone to bugs, glitches and/or strange coding being connected to things that should not be connected too.

This applies to small code portions being connected to the NPC’s face. So, if I change, “A” on the character card it might change “A” in the face gen texture. What could happen is the dark/gray face bug. BUT if you do your research there are ways to prevent this from happening.  Its not going to alter the character to look like “A beach whale” as one person rudely posted.

I prefer my characters look as close to the original concept. I will install better face textures, eyes, skin etc. for NPCS –which is why Serana looks the way she does in the screenshot.

The mod I use does not alter her face drastically, only betters the textures butkeeps to her original design. I for one love the way Serana looks in my game. And guess what? I do not have the dark/gray bug.

If your concerned that downloading my mod will make Serana in your game look like mine, you are mistaken.

OMG! I got the dark/gray bug! Fix it! Fix it now!

Uh no. All precautions were taken (twice) to ensure the percentage of this happening was very small to non-existent.

If
this problem does happen and you are sure it is this mod, please be as descriptive as possible.

This way other downloaders are aware that this mod with “X” mod has a chance of causing this glitch. Just know I will not leap in and correct this issue -- ever.

There are hundreds of mods out there –both private and public-- for Skyrim and Skyrim S.E. etc. I cannot and will not make a patch for every single one that may cause the dark/gray face bug.

If this mod was some big overhaul for weapons, armor etc.and was conflicting with another popular mod, I’d work my ass off to get the patch(es) out to you. If somehow this mod does happen to conflict with a popular mod(s) and a large portion of people are having the exact same issue, I will happily create a patch(es).

The dark/gray face is a minor –annoying – bug which you can easily fix yourself. All you need is Google and a few minutes of your time.
I am here to help but not here to hold your hand.

IF the face glitch does happen to you, please, do not blame me. Bethesda is that way --->

Let me know if you come across Pete Hines while your there.
