About this mod
This mod fundamentally changes the game by turning health/mana/stamina autoregeneration off completely. You will have to rely on overhauled healing/regeneration potions and food to keep yourself alive and going. Nothing hardcore.

Vanilla Skyrim has very inconsistent arcade-ish healing system. It regenerates your health, mana and stamina automatically for free at a very fast pace, but cuts all regeneration speeds by 66% when you enter combat and shuts it off completely for a second every time you receive damage, including all regeneration enchantments and potions thus making them virtually useless. This mod turns off free regeneration, removes regeneration limitations in combat and gives a lot of options to restore health, magicka and stamina with food and potions, classical RPG-style.What this mod does:
1. You no longer regenerate automatically for free, but all other healing and regeneration effects are no longer slowed or disabled by being in combat or getting hit.
2. Regeneration armor enchantments were extremely nerfed in power. Not turned off completely, but are very weak. I didn't remove them altogether only to preserve full installation/uninstallation save compatibility. They should not be used.
3. All 'Regenerate Magicka/Stamina/Health' potions, both crafted and from shops, will now properly work over time as intended - standard cycle is now 60 real life seconds so if a food item or a potion says "health regenerates 40% faster for 60 seconds" this means it will restore 40% of your health over one real life minute.
4. All 'Restore Magicka/Stamina/Health' potions were rebalanced and still heal you instantly
5. All food was remade from scratch. As a general rule of thumb, meat heals health, vegetables restore stamina, fruit restore magicka. You can eat raw apples and simple food like bread for minor restoration. More elaborate foods like soup, pies and grilled steak will restore decent flat amount reasonably fast and provide 5-10% regeneration per minute for 20 RL minutes. Complex foods like stews will give moderately fast Vanilla-like regeneration for quite some time very useful for out of combat healing.
For example, Venison Stew is cooked from venison meat, garlic, potatoes and green leek and will restore 16% of your health and 10% of your stamina per RL minute for 2.5 RL hours. A more simple Roasted Beef will restore 4 health per second for 30 seconds and 6% health per minute for 20 minutes. Eating an apple will restore 30 mana over 30 seconds, 1 mana per second.
6. Added a lot of custom recipes and altered most preexisting ones. You can now cook fish and mushrooms too.
7. Complimentary changes to alchemy, plants generally produce weaker healing/regeneration potions than components like Vampire Dust or Frost Salts. Optional file that does not touch Alchemy added.
8. Healing magic isn't changed.
9. Timescale is set to 6 (vanilla is 20) - one real life minute corresponds to 6 minutes of in-game time.
10. Mod is designed to be extremely light, it has no running scripts or perpetual quests, doesn't use SKSE.
The mod itself is softcore. It does not make the game harder, rather changing it to be a bit different without becoming annoying.
Installation: use mod manager or drop Data folder from the archive into your installation folder and enable Kat's Regen and Food overhaul.esp in your load order. The mod doesn't require anything except Skyrim Special Edition itself and does not need SKSE to function. Unofficial Community Patch is highly recommended but not required.
IMPORTANT! Mod is built around TimeScale 6. Due to the way game engine treats regeneration and healing over time (they have extremely low calculation priority because vanilla game barely uses those functions, a lot of them aren't even properly coded so I had to make new ones myself) game will drop increasingly more and more healing instances the faster ingame time passes restoring less than intended. Over dozens of experiments I've eventually decided to use TimeScale 6 (default it 20) it being 95%+ reliable, averaging 3-4 less HP regenerated than intended out of 300 while sleeping or fast-traveling.
The mod DOES NOT require a new game, but it will not be able to set timescale to 6 on an existing savegame - you will have to do it yourself by loading your existing save, opening console and typing set timescale to 6 and pressing enter. To test the result type show timescale and press enter again - the game should print 6.000000 as an answer - that means you're done. Save the game after that - this variable is stored in your savegame. Everything else should initialize itself automatically.
Uninstallation: is possible, but not recommended. Eat/sell all food that does not exist in vanilla Skyrim, input set timescale to 20 into the console if you want time to go as fast as it originally was, sleep for a day, save the game and exit. Uninstall the mod using mod manager or remove esp from the Data folder and reload the save pressing ok when the game warns you about save relying on a missing esp and then save and exit again. There will be a few trash lines in your save but all vanilla assets will revert back and you will be able to continue playing without this mod.
