About this mod

This mod tries to improve the vanilla Two-Handed perk tree by slightly improving Sweep and Warmaster. Also, a critical strike re-calculation is included in the second version, that tries to balance critical damage for Greatswords.

Permissions and credits
I've made a spiritual successor, you can find it here:
Rise's Vanilla Perks
Though there is nothing wrong with continuing to use this mod.

This mod changes the following:

Two-Handed:

Sweep

  • Name changed to Sweeping Strikes.
  • Now also affects normal swings in addition to sideways power attacks.

Warmaster

  • Name changed to Powerful Swings.
  • Now also affects forward power attacks.
  • Tooltip changed to reflect the knock down effect instead of Paralysis.
  • I also reverted the fix of USSEP that changes Warmaster to paralyze instead of knocking down your target. It didn't make much sense to me, bringing down my weapon on someone, only to see them motionlessly fall over.

Other name changes:

Limbsplitter - Name changed to Deep Wounds.
Deep Wounds - Name changed to Precise Striking.
Skullcrusher - Name changed to Sunder Armor.

(If there is enough request for it I can remove the name changes alltogether)

I've made two versions of this mod:

Version 1 does only what is stated above. Version 2 however, changes the calculations for critical hits for Greatswords. Since originally, critical hits only added half your weapons base damage (Smithing improvements or skills/items have no effect on the base damage) to your swing, criticals became rather useless later in the game.

Here is an example for different stages in the game when you critically strike an enemy:

Vanilla:

Crit Perk 1 = Iron Greatsword 15 Damage ===> 7 additional damage (15 / 2, rounded down)
Crit Perk 2 = Elven Greatsword 20 Damage ===> 12,5 additional damage (20 / 2 * 1.25)
Crit Perk 3 = Daedric Greatsword 24 Damage ===> 22,5 additional damage (24 / 2 * 1.25 * 1.5)

When you swing at enemies for hundreds of damage, a 20% chance for 22.5 additional damage is pretty much negligible.

I've tried to fix this by making the critical hits scale with your two-handed weapon skill. Unfortunately, I don't think it is possible to make it scale with your weapon damage.

My mod adds a scaling factor of 0.06/0.07/0.08 to your two-handed weapon skill respectively for calculating critical hits:

Crit Perk 1 = Iron Greatsword 15 Damage ===> 30 Two-Handed Perk => 7 * 30 * 0.06 ===> 12,6 additional damage
Crit Perk 2 = Elven Greatsword 20 Damage ===> 60 Two-Handed Perk => 10 * 60 * 0.07 ===> 42 additional damage
Crit Perk 3 = Daedric Greatsword 24 Damage ===> 80 Two-Handed Perk => 12 * 80 * 0.08 ===> 76,8 additional damage

I could not yet extensively test my second version, it may still be either underpowered or completely overpowered. Please provide feedback if you like!

Future plans:

- Add increased attack speed with two-handed weapons to a perk or as a seperate perk
- Add an increase to blocking effectiveness to a perk or as a seperate perk
- Add something to Warhammers?
- Maybe rebalance the scaling factors for Greatsword critical strikes.
- Increase bleed damage of Battleaxes
(I'll look into those once the CK bug with perk trees is fixed. The bug: When you open a perk tree, you are greeted with a gray window instead of the perks)

Installation:

Install with your favorite Mod Manager, or place the file into your Skyrim Special Edition\Data directory (for example: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\Data\)

Uninstallation: Remove the file from your Mod Manager or from your Skyrim Special Edition\Data directory. Since this mod does not add any scripts or anything, it is completely safe to remove.

Requirements & Compatibility:

Nothing besides the base game (Skyrim Special Edition) is required.

This mod should be compatible with everything save for other perk overhauls or mods that change these perks. This mod also incorporates the fixes of USSEP, so it is not necessary, but still compatible.
